So this building is currently coming down. Are there any plans for the site?

The 8,000-square-foot Muehlebach garage will be transformed into event space and office space, which Sally expects to attract creative and tech firms.
"It is a great location a block and half from two streetcar stops and has abundant off-street parking," he said.
In addition, the site includes two small freight buildings totaling 2,900 square feet. Sally plans to connect the side-by-side buildings with a new 3,500-square-foot courtyard space. He expects them to attract a restaurant and bar operator interested in joining the River Market's thriving culinary scene.

? Two different locations and properties.

The Defeo Building and the pending demolition is at 3rd and Oak.

Chris Sally's redevelopment is at 5th and Oak.

I'm pretty sure the rendering below is on the other side of Oak. The article mentions that they have plenty of parking - so I don't think they'd be knocking the DeFeo produce building for a surface lot. I may be wrong though.

^ yeah, that is a different property.
DeFeo Produce building currently being demoed is on the SE corner of 3rd & Oak.
The Muehlebach garage project is on the other side of Oak and at the other end of the block, NW corner of 5th & Oak.

And hopefully the answer to my question isn't surface parking. That would mean surface parking, next to surface parking, across the street from surface parking, and diagonal from surface parking.

Only rumor, but I was told it's being bought by the owners of Cold Storage Lofts.

Buying for 'future development'.

Demo guys quoted as saying that it will be developed as a parking lot upon completion of building demo.

This is correct, to the best of my knowledge.

This image was labeled as 531 Grand on a different city message board. Does anyone know if this is a legit photo of the proposed residential at this corner, or just a falsely labeled photo? I didn't think a rendering had been released yet for this development.

This project would be just down the street from the Centropolis project, in the empty lot on the SE corner of Grand & Missouri.

I would be very pleased with that building. I especially like how there is street level retail. Would go well with everything on Missouri.

That image matches the descriptions I've heard of the project, at least for scale and configuration.

That rendering is for an apartment being built in Seattle: http://www.bizjournals.com/seattle/news ... l?page=all

That building is actually smaller than what is proposed for the River Market. The Seattle project is 96 units and 6,500 sq ft of retail, 531 Grand is to be 140 units and 10,000 sq ft commercial (plus garage). Also, it is being designed by NSPJ, so don't expect anything so modern.

Yeah, it's NSPJ in Prairie Village, not Hufft, El Dorado, Helix, KEM, or any of the other local firms in KCMO that design contemporary projects.
Expect "Tuscan" / faux-historic / JC-Penney's inspired crap like this, which is pretty much what we're getting with Centropolis and the P&L addition:

I don't get it. I'm assuming their biggest target market is the millennial generation, but they're going with a firm that creates designs for baby boomer sensibilities.

Excuse me - I'm a baby boomer. That design doesn't suit my sensibilities.
