Despite Bistate II defeat, owner to keep team here

By BOB DUTTON

The Kansas City Star

Failure of the Bistate II funding measure that included $180 million to renovate Kauffman Stadium won't drive the Royals out of Kansas City.

Well that's good to hear. I don't necessarily believe it 100%, but it's good to hear.

I trust them, the only reason we are a small market, is because they lose alot of support by losing, thus their salary cap drops b/c of the market size...

If they got everything together and started winning, they know their salary cap will go up...

That is why STL is such a good team, they are a big baseball market... Yet in football, they aren't nearly as big of a football market as we are... Kind of our opposites.

Of course Glass won't go anywhere - if he could, he'd have said that during the campaign.

He's "landlocked"

Did anybody hear John Bondon yesterday morning on Mike Shannon's show (980 KMBZ). He said that Glass would take the team out of KC if improvements weren't made to the stadium by 2006.

Yeah possibly. His contention is that the Royals contract with the Sports Authority will be null and void if approvements aren't made by '06 thus giving the Royals an option to move elsewhere.

The leases call for the county to maintain "state of the art" statdiums, but don't specifiy what is entailed by state of the art. Even either team tried to use that clause to get out of the lease early, there would likely be a lot of litigation around that phrase.

so you want the Royals to leave? you do understand we can have the Chiefs, Royals and an NBA team right? It doesn't matter if they suck or not...

You don't need a team to win all the time to have a team in your city...
Look at the Red Sox, never won a World Series since 1918, but their fans still stuck beside them...

It won't matter where the Royals move, they will still be just as bad... So why remove them and make KC look bad for losing a baseball team when you can have us look good with a baseball team, even if the baseball team itself sucks...

I'll continue to buy our season tix to the Roils, just as we have for 30 years now. But I really won't care if/when they leave. It's pretty pointless watching them compete in an unfair system.

MLB obviously doesn't give a shit about 20 markets, so I care less and less about MLB. If you love a girl and she makes fun of you, spits in your face and bags you behind your back....

.....

...why would you continue to love her? Only low self-esteem people do that.

In the situation you just said, you continue to love her b/c it's the way ALL humans should be...

Royals did well up until Kauffman died, after that, the free agent system came and now the players go where the money is...
Going to Royals games beats going to a T-Bones game anytime :)
