Photos from 1900 - Imperial Kansas City

Post by KCtonic »

Found a book called "Imperial Kansas City" which seems to be a promotion piece for conventions in the city at the time.

Lots of photos in this thing. Should I share or is this something everyone's seen already?

One of many fun excerpts:
"Kansas City has six daily newspapers, five English and one German."

Here's one photo just to give you an idea of content. This is the Evans-Smith Drug Company importers and wholesale drugists that was located at 424-426 and 428 West Fifth street. Established in 1862.

If anyone is interested in more let me know.

Here's a few more...

As I mentioned, the book is kind of a promotional piece to attract conventions - kind of like we seem to be trying now... This is another book cover photo

This is now the Landmark Lofts. I almost asked who we had to blame for the loss of this building when I saw the tense you used, before I realized what it was.

I should have mentioned that, but couldn't remember the name of the lofts - even though I drive by it every day on my way home from work.

I tell you though, whoever renovated that building into lofts did an excellent job. ;-)

The Blossom House building indicated was not on Quality Hill, but in the West Bottoms across from Union Depot at 1048-50 Union Avenue.

There is a Blossom House on Quality Hill, but it's a former residence at 1032 Pennsylvania, and now a law firm.

George Blossom operated the Blossom House Hotel, and built the house on Quality Hill.
