Anton Kotar working on a burger & bourbon concept for the River Market area. Sounds interesting - he says "working on bringing a new concept to the River Market/Delaware Street area." I hope this happens!

That article hit me, too.

If in fact this is to be a Delaware Street development, is he going to open in a space that has not been a restaurant before?

Can't imagine it, but....? Otherwise, Al Dente....?

Someone will end up taking over the opportunity sitting idle at Hickock's at Missouri and Walnut.

I thought the Harry's people were opening an Italian place in the Hickock's space. Heard that long enough ago with no action that maybe it was pure rumor or fell through. Anyone know?

I'd love to see another good casual but nice dinner option in RM and I don't think the burger craze will ever die for me :)

Harry's walked away from the Hickocks deal. The rumor* was that the bank which now owns the Hickocks property was not willing to make a deal at numbers that would make any sense.

We've discussed previously what a great opportunity those lots are. (I've got to think its is the southern lot)

The space Anton is looking at is the one immediately to the North of Quay. It's not currently a restaurant, but instead a corporate landscaping spot.

yes...the old cup & saucer location. Or more clearly the space their failed expansion was located.

I'd like to see a combination One Light + 51st/Brookside model used

take each lot and put in a belowground public parking garage. the NE and SE corners could hold a substantial public garage in with just 2-3 levels. I bet they could go down to 4-5.

then above wrap the smaller units around tenant parking aboveground. put the larger units above the garage on higher floors.

Populous Relocating to Plaza

A big loss IMO for River Market and downtown. 240 jobs whisked to South Plaza. Also a personal disappointment because I like pointing out Populous to visitors and mentioning all the stadiums they've designed around the world.

That indeed sucks. Surprising they didn't try harder to work out a new lease as that building was built specifically for them. It was definitely nice having them in the River Market, and it won't feel right without them.

Huge loss for my neighborhood. The building already has extra space available on the top floor too. Probably a good example of a private real estate firm trying to squeeze too much. I wonder what could move in there now with that much space available.

On a positive note, they stayed in KCMO and didn't bail for JOCO.

I bet if you talked to someone in Olathe or Lee's Summit that the two places are effectively the same to them or maybe better. traffic into downtown versus Shawnee Mission Parkway or Ward Parkway from the west.

about the only people hurt are northland and Independence/Blue Springs. and for them it's no drive to JoCo

if they were going to move they couldn't have picked much better for the city. they fill an existing building and free up a great building with a modern design in downtown, it's not that old for downtown. one commercial issue downtown is there's not enough modern space and this could help some downtown business move up without leaving downtown
