Cheddar's opened yesterday. The article mentions this will be a shopping area and mentions a specialty grocery store.

they need most the staff during peak dinner hours, 5-10

they hire a lot of people part time as a result. it's a tactic to get out of most of them being eligible for insurance

The developers of Mission Gateway in Mission said a Sprouts is scheduled to open there and sources said other area stores are in the works including one in Liberty.

Sprouts was founded in 2002 in Chandler, Ariz. There are now 170 stores.

If needed mostly for 5 hours a day why have them work full time?

there's nothing wrong with offering flexible shifts but I don't see how a 288 seat restaurant couldn't get away with 120-150 staff members with the right schedule. 120x 40 hours is 4800 hours available to split up into the shifts. (open 12 hours plus delivery, prep and cleanup time) this means they need coverage for ~105 hours of the week. simple division says that's like having 45 people working concurrently at all times or something like 30 non-peak, 60 peak, and I've never seen a restaurant need that many people constantly every day of the week. Saturday, sure. Wednesday, not a chance.

with 200 people you're working most of them 20 hours or less per week because you don't need a huge staff half of the day. that's good for someone in high school that only can work 4-9 two days a week but it's not jobs that bring a living wage for a family

my point is their 200 people is meant to make them look good, like they're providing all these jobs, and it's nothing of the sort

There are many college kids that look for part time work plus there are some out there looking for a second job so therefore part time work. If you are looking at restaurant work to make a middle class living, especially when the employer can pay you less than minimum wage because of tips, then you better get into another career.

Then the headline should read "creates 200 part time jobs for teenagers".

Unfortunately most teenagers are bumped out of job market for adults with families who now have to take those part time jobs.
