Not being notified upon replies

Post by Roanoker »

I noticed at least one instance where someone replied to a post I made, but I was not notified by email as has been the case in the past. I see that there is a "Yes" next to "Notify me upon replies by default:" in my User Control Panel.

Do I need to do anything to get this feature reactivated?

Thanks!

Unfortunately, I believe this is due to a hack bahua employed to stop the forum from sending tens of thousands of bogus account activation emails when the hordes of spambots signed up for accounts. Not seeing another viable solution (and not realizing anyone actually used the reply notification feature!) he intentionally broke the forum's email subsystem. I'll ping him about it.

mean, for what it's worth: I have been notified of replies via e-mail as recently as last month. But, I have since turned that feature off.

I'm not sure exactly when bahua did his thing, but it couldn't have been much more than a month ago, or less.

Perhaps the "reply" default could be changed to "No" for all accounts. Then if a person wanted the replies, he could set it to "Yes" himself. Would that work?

I have been trying to figure out a way to isolate activation emails from the rest of the legitimate uses of the forum's email functionality. So far I have not figured out a way without editing the PHP code, which is not an elegant or lasting solution.

Thank you, Bahua, but I don't think is is worth your bother. As long as threads are shown as not read, I'm good.
