Yes, the windows were unveiled last night...my guess is they didn't do anything around that huge christmas tree in the courtyard by BK...and Balsanos thought they should.

Re: P&L District: 13th & Main Site Proposal
I am friends with the owner of Balsanos. He's unhappy because they didn't plan something around the big Christmas tree. They should have had a small Christmas concert with carolers or something to draw people into the center to help support and promote the businesses there as well. Really feel like Cordish needs to pick up a big name anchor tenant (i.e. Hard Rock KC) or something that would draw a continuous flow of tourists and locals to the district. There are some very nice/high profile corners still waiting for something big and fun to take the space.

Power & Light pop up barbecue joint to feature four American Royal winners
KCTV Channel 5 reports that the American Royal and the P&L have teamed up to offer the winners of a separate barbecue contest, held at this year's competition, the keys to a pop-up barbecue joint in the former Genghis Grill space at 1345 Main....
Each winner will get three months to operate his/her restaurant.

kudos to cordish for cooking this up. i detest barbecue, but the pop-up concept is a winner for empty stalls.

Definitely. Hopefully this is able to evolve into a permanent location for some local BBQ.DaveKCMO wrote:kudos to cordish for cooking this up.... but the pop-up concept is a winner for empty stalls.

I had some Ameristar Buffet last night (grandparents were in town...they stay there because they like slot machines I guess.)DaveKCMO wrote:don't get me started on buffets...
Anyway, a true smorgasbord of worldly cuisine and the clientele represented all walks of life from Ray County.

I have come to this conclusion as well. If for no other reason but for the times when someone leaves a spoon or tongs completely on top of or inside the dish, handle and all. I've seen a few things go down on the Cosentino's salad bar line that have reinforced this aversion. I also saw an expose on Mr. Bulky's once that made me almost never want to go out in public again.DaveKCMO wrote:don't get me started on buffets...

Seeing the clientele at a buffet is the best way to get me to the gym the next morning.

Kinda. I wonder how many of these winners will have the time and ability to drop what they are doing to move here and open a restaurant for just 3 months. I would wager that most of them have regular jobs.KCPowercat wrote:Cool idea.KCMax wrote:Power & Light pop up barbecue joint to feature four American Royal winners

a lot of people who have time to pick up, drive for days to KC and live in the west bottoms for half a week have more time than many.taxi wrote: Kinda. it doesn't describe all, but it describes some I'm sure

Re: P&L District: 13th & Main Site Proposal
I would imagine participants will be the more serious, commercial BBQers. Maybe some small operators with suppliers and advertisers lined up. Maybe some even have food trucks already.flyingember wrote:a lot of people who have time to pick up, drive for days to KC and live in the west bottoms for half a week have more time than many.taxi wrote: Kinda. I mean, your neighbor Ron, who casually smokes meat on the weekends isn't going to move into the P&L for 3 months.

Come on now. Just because you compete in a BBQ contest does that mean you can operate a restaurant. Guess if you already operate a restaurant it might be doable.

The quote says "Each winner will get three months to operate his/her restaurant." Which is different than Cordish operating a restaurant. So just going by what the quote said.
