Does Chicago have its own Category, the only cities listed are Minneapolis, Des Moines, Omaha, KC, St Louis, Madison and Milwaukee

Congrats to the first timers! This is old-hat now for ChefColby. It is amazing the level of consistency that he and his crew have been able to maintain. That alone is a great accomplishment.

There are a lot of other chefs doing great things in KC, but it has to be a small list. Too bad, but it is still great exposure for those nominated. In a few years, I hope to see that KC is matching the number of nominations from Minneapolis. There are a lot of exciting things going on.

Noticed a wine bar in Manhattan, KS was listed for its outstanding wine program. Powercat or anyone else ever been to 4 Olives? Was impressed to see a well regarded wine program that far outside a major metro.

made a quick trip to omaha to same their two nominees -- grey plume and v. mertz. the latter was really great and i can't believe i didn't discover it earlier, a total JJ's vibe. grey plume is new; the food was pretty good, but the space was a strange mish-mash of suburban beige and industrial/commercial.

if you haven't been to proof when you're in des moines, try it... it's one of our favorites.

colby made it to the semi-finals!

Colby of Bluestem won best chef of Midwest. James Beard Awards are essentially the Oscars of foodie industry.

Congrats.

KC has 4 or 5 James Beard winners still active in KC. Not many mid-size cities have that many. I don't think STL has a single winner.

Michael Smith, Debbie Gold, Celina Tio and now Colby for chefs. Doug Frost for wine. I think one or two for cookbooks. There might be others. I suppose Lidia B is one but no exactly active in KC.
