What does KC have to offer in terms of bike trails in the metro? I am more interested in getting exercise on recreational trail systems rather than riding on the streets.

I've been looking at some trails on Google Maps and it seems that only the Indian Creek/Tomahawk trail systems are developed enough to extend for several miles (you can get from Minor Park to Olathe on a trail system with only a couple of blocks on the actual road). As a younger person, I frequently road my bike from south KC to even downtown but since the advent of cell phones, I'm not willing to trust my luck sharing the road with cars any more but I still love to bike. In Norway, biking was my main form of transportation but the country was so much more bike friendly than the US. Just wondering what other parts of the metro can be traversed without driving a lot on roads.

That's a great trail, we ride it often. We also ride on the Mill Creek Streamway, but that barely qualifies as in the metro. Great ride though. Supposedly they will have the Turkey Creek trail extended all the way to SW Blvd in a couple of years. Right now it goes from 75th Street to 53rd in Merriam. Don't think it will be entirely trails, but I think the on road portion will have a dedicated bike lane.

Didn't know about Mill Creek - looks like it extends from deep in Olathe all the way to the Kansas River. Maybe not the metro but it certainly looks like the western frontier of the metro at the very least.

I bike around the city often with no issues on side streets. Also like to take MAX bus to River Market with bike and then either ride to the downtown airport, which has a bike path loop and/or to Cliff Drive, which has marked bike paths. The Heart of America bridge has a bike path over MO River, can cut through low traffic industrial area to get to airport.

Of course, there's the Trolley Trail, too. It runs from the Plaza, at about 47th Street, south to at least 85th Street. At one point it was going to be connected to the Indian Creek Trail. I think the southern end has had to be a little bit re-routed because of a big sinkhole.
