RP should build a new town center in the location of the Walmart.
Oh....I forgot that they tore down their town center to build the Walmart. :(

Yeah, when I first stumbled upon that area in 1985 (having just moved to Mission), I was kind of impressed by the historic aspect of it. They could have given it a facelift and kept it viable for years (like the Prairie Village shops). Instead, a very ugly building was erected.

Roeland Park should tear that old Wal-Mart down, and redevelop that area with a more "new urbanist" project with higher-density apartments on top of traditional retail and office spaces at ground level.

Put the parking garage in the middle and wrap the residendial and retail around it so you can't see the garage.

They should have done that with Bella Roe Plaza.

Lambert's in Ozark,MO of 65 Highway and has one in Farley,AL and Sikeston,MO.

The list contained another 12 stores that are currently negotiating letters of intent and are anticipated to join the development. There are two stores listed as “Jr. Anchor” both at 30,000 square feet or more, five listed as “Small Format” and five additional restaurants. The total square footage for those negotiating letters is 96,116.

three other unnamed restaurants are under lease, ranging from 2,600 to 6,000 square feet. The developer is also finalizing a lease with a health club (23,000 SF).

Mission Gateway deal expected to close next month
Mission’s final action on the Gateway project at Shawnee Mission Parkway and Johnson Drive is expected to come at a meeting now scheduled for November 27. That is a move from the regular November council meeting that was scheduled for the night before Thanksgiving.

The city is planning to finish a development agreement for Gateway, including the financing package in time to present the details at a series of public meetings on Nov. 12 and 13. The meetings will be held at the Sylvester Powell Jr. Community Center. Meetings on Nov. 12 will be at 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. and on Nov. 13 at 6:30 p.m.

Walmart asked to charge Gateway CID tax
Councilor David Shepard, who chairs the Finance and Administration Committee, told Valenti, “I think this is an issue that two or three around the table are willing to die for,” meaning that some councilors might consider voting against the project if Walmart is not included. Articulating his own position, Shepard said, “It doesn’t bother me (if Walmart is not in) if the deal still works,” to fund the public assistance bonds.
