Are they going to do something else where that garage was planned? If so, then cool. If not, then damn it for making the walk from the arena to parking go through nothing more than one crosswalk.

well it's only 1000 spots so I wouldn't worry about it but I see where KCN is coming from. Don't put too much parking right next door to a big attraction...we WANT people walking a couple blocks through the district. It's good urban planning.

The oringinal garage site is where they are considering the 1st condo tower.
Are you sure we're talking about the same God here, because yours sounds kind of like a dick.

I think you can pretty much write down Hard Rock for this block.

I'm going to be the first to publicly criticize the idea of the nightlife "Live" concept because of the way it looks with the canopy covering this portion of the development. I have no problem with an urban canopy, but in this case because all the building are brand new and somewhat plastic-- the whole thing looks and will feel like a mall food court. Just think about it. Imagine watching John Mayer, Jack Johnson or whoever perform in the center of a brand new, canopied center surrounded on all sides by chain restaurants and bars like Hard Rock, Bar Louie, McFadden's and Tiki Bob's. Maybe they could get Tiffany to appear there. I'm sorry...LAME!

Renderings are nevere exact so you can not judge it from that one anymore then you could judge the upcoming arena not until they release models or photos based on the final blueprints and besides these performers will go anywhere they think they can get the biggest paycheck.

I wonder if "multi-tech garden" is actually a tongue-in-cheek name for a dish and antenna farm, perhaps hidden behind the upper facade? It looks like nearby media venues (Concerts, ESPNZone or equivalent) could make use of such a facility. Then again, it probably isn't, but I can't imagine what such a "garden" would otherwise be. Shrubbery with light and sound shows?

"garden" doesn't necessarily mean plants
I'm visualizing some place with a lot of multimedia-- TVs, music, computers/internet, maybe Playstation-type games. Though it would be cool to then integrate all the antennas and satellite dishes into the design (as long as patrons don't end up feeling like they're being hit with lethal doses of radiation)

Are you talking about those 4 things sticking up on the west part of the block in the webcam?
What are those? Looks like they're nearly in the street.

I wonder if they are part of a temporary structure to stabilize the pit they are working in.KCN wrote: Are you talking about those 4 things sticking up on the west part of the block in the webcam?

This definitely looks like actual work begining.  They've built a ramp into the pit (as opposed to just plopping in over any shallow edge), are smoothing out the edges of the block, and shoring up the walls.  It also looks like they're running some utilities into the block.

There are no highrises or underground parking here, so there shouldn't be too much excavation before they start to build. I wonder if they would rather everything get completed at the same time, or finish one part and let it sit until it's ready to be occupied along with everything else.

I don't know why they couldn't start occupying the new buildings as soon as they are finished. . . I don't really see the benefit of holding off so everything can open at the same time.

(Old post, but) if they do get a Hard Rock Cafe, a neon saxophone would be very nice, though perhaps not three storeys. It could be a modest tribute to Charlie Parker, even though he wasn't a hard rocker. A big guitar would just feel too cookie-cutter, or "main-stream." I do like the color scheme of the big Minneapolis guitar. A glowing yellow saxophone with blue highlights would be sweet. Of course, there would also have to be some Harley-Davison references throughout the place.QueSi2Opie wrote:
Would it be better if it was a big ass three story neon saxophone? Â
This district will be a gleaming district with bright lights and huge gawdy signs...whether we like it or not. Â Sorry for stating the obvious, but it's a destination district...not a homegrown independent district like 39th Street or Xroads.

Re: P&L District: 13th & Walnut Site Proposal
I think a neon sax (or guitar) would be fine if there is plenty of other neon, marquees, etc. in the district. If it looks like a 3-story guitar dropped on the plaza, it will be a little inappropriate.
