Mizzou announces exhibition game at Missouri Southern to aid Joplin victims. Very classy move. I guess the NCAA had to sign off on it for some reason.

It's being played before the official start of the season, and won't count toward either team's 2 exhibition game limit.

Mizzou's already thin basketball ranks just got a little thinner with Kreklow transferring (I heard he was going to Sanford).  That leaves them with only 9 scholarship players for next year (assuming the Pressy's stay put) although a Louisville transfer out of Raytown may be able to play for Mizzou next season (because he has already graduated without using up his eligibility).  Anderson left Mizzou really bare when he left without bringing in any recruits for next season despite several schollies to give.  I'll give Haith credit for getting things going on the recruiting scene pretty quickly with a couple of decent commitments already.

According to 2009-2010 figures, ku and Mizzou turn a fairly similar profit in their hoops programs. ku doesn't even rank in the top 70 of overall athletic programs and just outside the top 25 of profitable basketball teams.

Probably not too great when your golden goose only turns a $5 million profit to run the rest of your athletic department on.

call me crazy but I don't buy it. I've seen lists on here before where KU blows Mizzou and K-State out of the water. K-State must have exaggerated its power-towel and decade of dominance DVD sales.

Those statistics show just how much more valuable a strong football program is compared to a strong basketball program.  The 20 most profitable athletic programs in college sports are football programs, as are 28 of the top 30.  Mizzou's football program is the 35th most profitable athletic program.

Interestingly, no Big XII basketball teams cracked the top 50.

Mizzou's combined football and basketball profits position it well for any future conference realignment discussions.

Mizzou is currently in the Big XII, and its sports programs are making healthy profits that the conference's bottom feeders can only dream of.  If MU happens to join the Big 10 following the hypothetical future conference realignment that I referenced, your question would make sense at that time.

That is a healthy drop-off for KU and a pretty big rise for Mizzou if those number are correct.

KU was 15 in 2008, 26 in 2009, and the only Big XII schools above them were Texas, OSU, A&M in both years, and OU and Nebraska in just 2009.  That means that MU was at best 5th and 7th in revenue during those seasons.  The revenue obviously fluctuates with performance on the court/field.  KU relies heavily on donations, so the economy hurt them more without having the same premium for football tickets that primarily football schools have.  They did have, at least in 2008, one of the best media rights deals in all of the NCAA.
