Humm, so will the show be taped in KC or elsewhere? I guess elsewhere? Hope Grinders doesn't fail as a result!

Don't know if it has been mentioned elsewhere, and I probably shouldn't put it in the KC mentions, but this documentary about St. Louis looks really fascinating. It sounds like it is right up the alley of many on this forum, discussing failed urban planning and such. Very cool trailer as well.

Two contestants on "America's Next Great Restaurant" are from KC.
Sandy Digiovanni is a bartender and former owner of "Stack's Drive In" and is still in the running. Her concept is a "Heaven and Hell" themed restaurant. Okay.

Breanne Teevan-Bongiovanni is an educator from KC that didn't make it past the initial round.

I didn't know where to post this, but it looks like Indieflix http://indieflix.com/ is distributing a film staring our (X) mayor. Perhaps this will be his next career.

Re: KC in TV and Movies
Not a direct reference to KC, but somehow pertinent to this forum...
In watching the first episode of "The Killing" on AMC, a remark was made about a kid's mom (the main character) being a bad dresser. I don't know the exact retort, but he said something to the effect of "Yeah, she shops at Ross."
Also, congrats to Celina Tio on her Top Chef Masters debut and first round survival. There are a lot of pretty fantastic chefs ont he show. I will be pulling for her down the line.

There was a Walt Disney Bio on MSNBC last night and they dug way deeper into his KC roots than I have seen before. Stuff I had no idea about.

Re: KC in TV and Movies
I was watching stand up comedy specials on Comedy Central and the info for one comic said he was from Kansas City - Nick Griffin. I googled him - apparently he went to Rockhurst HS and William Jewell and grew up here. Has a very self-deprecating style of humor - kinda funny, but it wears on you after awhile. Should probably be on suicide watch.
I don't believe he is related to KC comic Eddie Griffin - they look about as different as you can look.

Re: KC in TV and Movies
David Matheny is a local filmmaker whom i've been keeping tabs on since I came across his low budget movie ("My Stepdad's a Freakin Vampire") at the Glenwood Arts (i think it played for a week or two). It was pretty impressive considering he basically did for little to no money and with the help of friends and family. I think he took a year off from school to make the movie. Wasn't sure what he had been up to, but saw this sci-fi short he just made and was (once again) pretty impressed... crazy to see this kind of stuff being made right here in KC:

Re: KC in TV and Movies
HD Net has a show called "Drinking Made Easy" with Zane Lamprey. Its kinda like "No Reservations" except its about booze. Host travels to various cities around the country/world and finds local drinks and watering holes.
In his KC episode (he cites it as "The Paris on the Plains") he visits Buzzard Beach (apparently they invented some famous drink there - The Bergen Malt), Westport Cafe and Bar (and mixes drinks with Ryan Maybee!), Boulevard Brewery, BB's BBQ (to do a BBQ eating contest), the Drop (sampling the liquor appetizers), Harry's in Westport, and Kelly's to play beer pong.

Re: KC in TV and Movies
Someone earlier mentioned the lead character in "Outsourced" is supposed to be from Kansas City. This week he had the office watch an American football game, and it was of course the Chiefs. Dexter McCluster got a mention.

United States of Tara got cancelled. Granted, it was only set in the area, but it was still amusing to hear KC/OP discussed on tv. I also think it's a bummer that they cancelled it, because it was just getting interesting.
