The best sauce in the world cannot overcome bad meat.  And the best meat cannot overcome bad sauce.

As an old song went "can't have one without the other".

However the best sauce and the best meat cannot survive without beans.
I may be right.  I may be wrong.  But there is a lot of gray area in-between.

Believe that location is now gone.  I still shudder when it's ghost enters my consciousness.
There is no greater tragedy in the world than that AB's lends its name to the airport location.  Not sure if it is still there, but I think you can get an AB's sandwich from the generic sports bars they have.  I've eaten at the Legends location, and it is at least attempting the same recipe.  The airport consists of essentially deli meat on a hamburger bun with AB's sauce.  It really does scare me that people with layovers in KC will judge us from that.  I've eaten at some of the airport BBQ joints in Memphis, and they are pretty solid representations of their cue.

Maybe. I dunno. I don't think it's necessary, personally. Desirable for a certain demographic, but they would likely be as happy getting McNuggets at the drive through on the way home from Barney's Big Birthday Bash On Ice Featuring Dora The Explorer.

I have to agree with this.  P&L needs something to bring people down there when there is not an event which seems like most of the time.  Last time I was there, on a weekend, only Gordon Biersch and Bristols were busy. There is plenty of room for restaurants to please the foodies but the place needs people more than anything.

We are still talking about downtown Kansas City right?  I mean seriously, I don't expect and rarely see this type of urban snobbery in cities that can probably back it up, but KC?  I mean wow.

Yes, cleaner.  Not that it's a big deal though.  The original is great, but I won't pretend the food is somehow better there than at the Legends location.  Haven't been to the one at the casino or airport, so I can't speak to those.

And I didn't mean it was ALL about the sauce.  But it's at least 50% of the bbq experience.  If you have shitty sauce....*cough cough Famous Daves cough cough*....then it's a deal breaker.  Sometimes the sauce can carry the food for me....like with Gates.  IMO Gates doesn't have particularly great food when compared to Bryants or Okie Joe's, but the sauce makes up for it.  Bryants I've always felt had the best food, and pretty damn good sauce, so it's my favorite.

A co-op between Gates, Arthur Bryant's, and Oklahoma Joe's.  Throw all three into one of the big, vacant spots near SC.

It would be the culinary equivalent of Garment District.

Terrible idea?
this + a beer garden = winner. Maybe Boulevard could sponsor it.
