Oak Park Mall changes Saturday hours
I heard this the other day...this is stupid..7 o'clock on a saturday night!?!?!?! WTF?!?!?!? If I were in charge I'd have it close at 10 mon-sat. and 6 on sunday. When you limit places for juveniles to hang out at..you're going to get a bunch of delinquents!!

Somebody call them or something? Tell them you can no longer shop at Oak Park Mall because the new Saturday hours won't allow you enough time.

This is a typical suburban knee-jerk reaction to teen loitering. If KCMO chose this route, Crown Center, Westport and the Plaza would close at six everyday.
I think it sucks, I was out there last weekend at Penny's and could not believe it. It should help Independence Center though.

if the problem is teen loitering
why aren't they closing early on Fridays, can't they just forbid people under 16 after 6 PM? the Mall of America does this

Yeah, it's pretty ridiculous. When I do have to go to a mall, it's usually pretty tough for me to get out to one and get my shopping done even by the stupid 9:00 closing time. This move pretty much assures that Oak Park won't be a place I'll be able to shop at much anymore. Idiots.

Who gives a shit when Oak Park closes. I hate indoor malls, and I really hate Oak Park, full of stupid ass teenagers, and with a bunch of stores I can't even afford to shop at.
Last time I was there a goddamn security guard started giving me shit like I was one of those 15 year old bastards. Here I am going on 25, and some dumb fuck gives me a hard time!?!
I havent been back since.

Seriously? I would think this would be an unprofitable policy.nomadcowatbk wrote:why aren't they closing early on Fridays, can't they just forbid people under 16 after 6 PM? the Mall of America does this

I'm thinking that the malls are having a hard time with both making ends meet and with teen loitering.
Teens aren't there Saturday evenings to buy, they are there to see and be seen.
Watch sometime-they never have packages or bags. Just milling around and doing stupid things in parking lots, etc.
I'm sure staying open for the teen loitering evenings is costly for the malls if that is all the traffic they have.

Same hunch here. Plus, how much does a mall really save in fewer staff hours and power/HVAC off -- assuming that they actually turn off the lights and adjust the thermostat?KCPowercat wrote:Seriously?
