Oddly enough it looks like #39 does serve West 39th/KU Med every 30 minutes at least one night a week, Sunday, instead of diverting to the Plaza! I'm not sure what sense that makes.dangerboy wrote: dbrown@kcata.org
YES PLEASE this diversion seriously impacts by ability to use the bus system. At off-peak hours it means headways as long as an hour.

Has the new Mamas opened at The old Nickels Lunch yet? Are they going to close the original location? I haven't been in that area for so long I do not know what is going on there.

Forgive me if this was posted already, but I came across this 39th Street Plan from 2005. They've already implemented some of the branding, but I'm curious as to when we'll see more of the streetscaping and kiosks.

Last I heard, they have applications pending for PIAC funding for the streetscape. It would be part public money from PIAC and part CID funding from the district's sales tax. PIAC is currently holding weekly hearings and working on deciding what to fund for the 2008-2009 fiscal year.KCMax wrote: Forgive me if this was posted already, but I came across this 39th Street Plan from 2005. Sexologists store offers an educational experience
Elizabeth Rich, a clinical sexologist, opened her “sex-positive, gender-neutral, orientation-friendly store” a few months ago at 1415 W. 39th St.
“I have a lot of people who stumble in here, and those are actually some of the most gratifying experiences,” Rich said. “Most of the people who wonder if we are a sex shop find out pretty quickly that we are different. We really try to make it an educational experience as opposed to a retail experience.”

it's actually a very nice store run by a very intelligent woman. it isn't some seedy sex shop. way to judge it without having gone near it, though!justin8216 wrote: Great. Just what 39th st needed, a porno emporium.

I ate at Bronx delli today and was pleased with the experience. I and a couple of friends almost went to jimmy jiggers but looked at the prices of the entrees and decided against it.

I guess 39th is officially being re-branded "Restaurant Row." Signs going up and everything.

Seconded. If you're going to try a lame branding concept, at least come up with something original. VOLKER VITTLES LOL. Ok, not that original.trailerkid wrote: dumb.

Re: wtf is happening to w. 39th?!
And didn't they just try to re-brand it as "39th Street"? Seems like that was kind of a half-hearted effort that they didn't give time to catch on. And I think it was catching on.
Restaurant Row sounds like some strip mall at 151st and Nall.

yep. i think that the colorful W. 39th signs were a great idea. "restaurant row?" give me a break. i like w. 39th plenty, but i wouldn't call it a restaurant row. i never liked this unofficial name for it - and now that it's semi-"official" i like it even less. a bit of signage is fine, but i dont think that a neighborhood needs to be "branded."trailerkid wrote: dumb.

Does this mean all the people who bought cheesy, euro-style, W39th license stickers have to trade them in for a new version? God help us if they ever change the name of brookside; the sticker industry will never be able to keep up.
