Farmers market will add a splash of green to downtown KCK

You say empty parking lot; farmers say tomato — and cucumbers and squash and corn.

Come September, the Kansas City, Kan., Greenmarket will open a satellite location in a Unified Government parking lot at Sixth Street and Tauromee Avenue. The market will offer locally grown fresh fruit and vegetables from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. each Wednesday starting Sept. 8. The market's last day will be Sept. 29, but only for the season.

In 2005, the market will make a permanent move from Indian Springs to the downtown parking lot.

Vendors are hoping to capture thousands of employees who work downtown and Strawberry Hill residents, said Barbara McMillen, a greenmarket director.
