Makes sense to me because of the high visibility on a frequently traveled state highway, but they already removed the gas tanks.

A coffee shop could work if the patio faced the Fairway shops.

i don't get what it could be other than a coffee shop or something like that.  it's a pretty small area.  i hope it's a latteland.  i could see a caribou as well, like the drive-thru one farther down on SM Pkwy.

a good drive-thru coffee spot there would be fine with me.  it's not like that area is ever going to be "urban" - though its inner-suburban scale is a good deal more "urban" than most of midtown...

Food Court with Pizza Hunt Express and Subway.
Theirs was C. Store owned by Conoco that didn't sell Gas in Olathe one by Kansas City Road and Ridgeview and other by the Price Chopper Shopping Center on East side of Santa Fe by Mur-Len Road.
A little Book Store that's like a Newspaper Stand?
Farmers Market?
Dunkin Donuts or Krispy Kreme or Baskin Robbins?

According the KCStar it is going to be a Russell Stovers shop similar to their new concept store next to Oak Park Mall.  They are tearing down the old BP and building a new store.

Not sure why there are so many boos to this.  I agree that tearing down the building is shitty, but Russell Stovers is fine by me...it's not Christopher Elbow...but it's still a hometown business.  I'd actually like to see them in the P+L

My thoughts exactly. If Russel Stover announced that it was going to the P&L district everybody would be singing a different tune. It was a gas station, come on.

I think its worth talking about.  This was a missed opportunity for prime location along SMP.  Outside of valentines day when does anyone buy a box of chocolate.  An ice cream store would have thrived in this location.  Imagine a Ben and Jerry's.

It's just one disappointment after another in this town.

i care.  that area is very close to kcmo, and it's a vibrant, mixed-use area.  grocery store, restaurants, dry cleaners, independent bookstore, etc. all within walking distance of dozens of residences.  i think it's reasonable to have some small sliver of anticipation regarding what might open in such a high-traffic, attractive area.

thanks for weighing in to tell us what matters and what doesn't though.  sometimes it is easy to forget that an anonymous, random, sarcastic internet forum should focus on only the most profound issues facing the metro.

I think the new russel stover stores they have been building have ice cream counters.  I may be off base, but didn't the russel stover empire start in the basement of a home somewhere in that general corner of town?

I don't get the outrage - local company investing in retail storefronts.  I don't love their chocolate but it seems like an amenity upgrade over a gas station.

I'd much rather have the gas station than a chocolate store.
