Re: KC in TV and Movies
From the director of "Confederate States of America" (a movie showing "what if" had the south won the Civil war), comes a story about what happens when a small Kansas town gets cut off from the rest of the world and becomes militant. Sounds an awful lot like "Jericho".
The director is a film professor at KU.

Willmott was one of my professors at KU. His class was one of my top 5, probably, of my college career. It's always great to see someone local make a film using local people such as this, so I'm very excited to see this one come to fruition. I know CSA took a long time and a lot of work to find its way into Spike Lee's hands and to Sundance.
The movie also features a KU grad, Laura Kirk, who starred in the very low budget and little known Waiting for Guffman-styled mockumentary, "Lisa Picard is Famous."

Re: KC in TV and Movies
Nightly news is having a special segment where they drive across the country and report from a different city each night, telling about the economic downturn and how it is effecting different places. Last night they were in KC. Not a pretty picture. They were on the east side, of course to make it look as bad as possible, and talked with some residents. Empty bungalows, trashy lots, and broken windows were shown as a result of the housing crisis. A spike in crime was also brought up. Pretty sad. I hardly ever go east of Paseo (or even Troost) when at home. Easy to ignore how that side of our city is.

Re: KC in TV and Movies
I was surfing around YouTube the other day and stumbled upon a music video from an Australian band called Sneaky Sound System. Their single "Kansas City" was released this summer. It's kinda catchy.
Of course, a Wizard of Oz theme is used.

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this, but Stewie from Family Guy mentions Kansas City at a horse race. Its the episode where Peter takes a journey back in time with "Death" to look back on how he met Lois. I think the episode is "Death Lives".

Re: KC in TV and Movies
Another film being shot in KC!! WooHoo! http://www.kansascity.com/199/story/861106.html
from the star:
"Hollywood director Brent Huff has always wanted to film a movie in Kansas City.
Now the Springfield native — who attended the University of Missouri in Columbia — is getting his wish.
Production offices for his new film, “Last Will,” are in the Crossroads Arts District for the next couple of months. His crew will be filming at Levy and Craig law firm, Elmwood Cemetery, the Country Club Plaza, the West Bottoms, Independence, Charles Garney’s house, the 12-story glass loft building 4646 Broadway and other locales.
The movie, based on a true story, stars Tatum O’Neal and James Brolin. Other notables include Tom Berenger, Patrick Muldoon and Moon Unit Zappa.
Huff said his wardrobe department — which has to dress the upper-crust family at the heart of the film — has been especially pleased with what they have found at Halls."

Re: KC in TV and Movies
I think this is great, and will keep an eye out for any of the actors on the plaza and around town. Also, I looked into the rest of the cast on IMDB (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1312222/) and noticed that Brigitte Nielson is also in the movie. Please, everyone, hide your children and your booze while she (it) is in town.Midtownkid wrote: Another film being shot in KC!! WooHoo! http://www.kansascity.com/199/story/861106.html

Re: KC in TV and Movies
A couple of film events to invite you to:
First Friday - Nov 7th - "Best of Fest Reel". We will be running a continuous loop of award winning shorts from the 2008 Kansas City Jubilee Film Festival. (This is now known as Kansas City FilmFest). The films will be shown in our studio (Third Eye Productions) at 2024 Main St. The entrance is on the Baltimore side of the building right next to the Freighthouse. Runs from 5 - 9 PM, maybe later.
And for those of you who have expressed interest in the film "Fling", formerly known as "Lie To Me" by native Kansas City filmmaker John Stuart Muller, we will be hosting a meet and greet with John, his partner Laura Boersma and cinematographer Fred Schroeder on Wednesday November 12th from 5-7 PM. This is open to the public, same location, Third Eye Productions, and there will be a short presentation by John and his gang where you can ask questions... Should be a good time. And don't forget that the film will run for the following week at Screenland.
Both events are sponsored by the Film Commission of Greater Kansas City. Hope to see some of you there..

Here's one way to put KC in more movies:
www.whatareyouabout.org
It's a video sharing site that's strictly KC-oriented. There's actually a contest going on right now. Some pretty cool stuff up for grabs.

A reviewer on KCUR said "Fling" isn't all that great, but its beautifully shot with lots of great shots of Kansas City including scenes in Skies and the Peanut.Cyclops wrote:

Road Tasted with the Neely's on the Food Network is on right now and is in KC. They just went to Christopher Elbow and it looks like they're going to Cupini's, Fritz's and Just Desserts. I don't know if this is a rerun or not, but I've never seen it before.

Re: KC in TV and Movies
Heard from a Roanoke neighborhood newsletter (forwarded to me from my parents) that the movie 'Last Will' was being shot in a neighborhood house recently. Pretty cool, not sure who the family is. I didn't recognize their name.
