Depending on which channel you watched, there was either a tornado near Riverside heading straight towards Downtown or there was a tornado near Liberty heading straight towards Eastern Jackson County. In either case I didn't see anything other than lots of lightning and some really cool cloud formations.

I thought they could turn on sirens in certain areas after they got the new system installed, why would they turn them on all over the county

While we could hear sirens off a bit in the distance, it wasn't deafening - & I think there's some sirens on top of the Ambassador building half a block away. So I dunno what was up there. By 4AM we went back to sleep.

Sounded like some KCK sirens that I heard in Midtown. Channel 5 kept telling us that Katy Horner was on her way into the studio, I think she made it on the air around 3:30am. She was telling everyone to seek shelter, but since Channel 9 wasn't even breaking into their regular programming I knew it was OK to go back to sleep

Metro Weather is pretty useless BTW. They did go live into storm mode before KCTV. but they were the ones reporting a tornado heading towards downtown. Later, after storm #1 was already off in lee's Summit, Metro Weather's radar was still showing it as north downtown KC.

Metro weather is produced locally at TWC's studios. It's just geared toward showing you the radar and forecast, it isn't really designed to do breaking weather news well.

Are you sure? I coulda sworn I read somewhere that it was programmed by an outfit on the East Coast ( I wanna say CT, but I don't remember for sure ) that produces material for markets around the country.
