Turnpike toll fees to increase
By MARY RUPERT

Kansan news editor

It will cost another nickel to drive from Bonner Springs to Lawrence on the Kansas Turnpike, beginning Aug. 1.

According to Lisa Callahan, public relations director for the Kansas Turnpike Authority, toll fees for the turnpike will increase by about five percent.

That means the toll from the eastern terminal at Bonner Springs, for example, to the east Lawrence terminal would increase from $1.30 to $1.35.

The tolls last were raised five percent in 2001, Callahan said.
This doesn't really bother me, as a person who travels west to Lawrence frequently because I rarely use the turnpike any more, I just take State Ave. all the way there.

I use it a lot going to Manhattan in the fall....I welcome the increase if they add lanes of traffic. Usually they just use the money to fix the highway every other year in the same spots....that gets a little crazy.

At least the people using the facility are paying for it. They also need six lanes all the way through Wyandotte County, rather than dropping to four lanes right near Sandstone.

My cousin will be paying $4.75 (South Entrance to Emporia) when he comes to Kansas City on July 29th and then pay $5.00 when he goes home on August 2nd. He'll be like WTF?!?! Seriously though, I'm sure he won't even notice.

That's even better. Now when I drive up I can just hand them a $5 bill with my ticket and be on my way.

I just took the Penn Turnpike- same system as Kansas, but twice the cost. I paid about 6.00 to drive for about an hour and a half.
