HOK Sport Venue Event in Kansas City is now independent

Post by KCMax »

HOK Sport Venue Event in Kansas City is now independent of former parent HOK Group

HOK Sport Venue Event has purchased its independence from its St. Louis-based parent company, HOK Group, and will become a separate company with headquarters in Kansas City.

“We think it’s good for Kansas City,” Joe Spear, senior principal, said Thursday. “You’ll now have the fifth-largest architectural firm in the nation headquartered here.”

This is what we want: companies that keep or bring profits here.

Sports architecture firm changes name

HOK Sport Venue Event is no longer.

The Kansas City-based sports architecture giant, now a stand-alone company, officially has changed its name to Populous.

This would explain the Populous on their video board.

I think they do April Fools in the Western side of Missouri.  Not much to do over there, so they just play jokes on each other.

Populous to design the main stadium for the 2014 winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.  The only firm ever to be designing 2 Oluympic stadiums simultaneously.

That is great news for them, considering that they had another round of layoffs last week.

I like the design. One thing I notice about stadiums that are built out of the US, and that's there aren't any massive scoreboards.

Same here, they detract from the game way too much.

What's funny is that the new Dallas stadium totes itself as the largest HD screen in the world, yet it also states that it has a resolution of 1080P (Hince the actual 16/9 aspect ratio of the screen), giving it a total of 1920 lines of resolution wide by 1,080 lines of resolution high.  If this is indeed the case, then it is the exact same viewed resolution as EVERY 1080P consumer television set offered at electronics stores like Best Buy, and Wal-mart.  Since the screen in the stadium is blown up in size to 60 yards wide the image quality may very well be much, much worse than a home Television set...even at the seating bowl distances.

This makes one wonder what the true resolution is, as the whole "1080P HD" promotion may just be a bunch of lingo tossed out there by Jerry Jones trying to bait people into coming out to see it.  What's real interesting...is that if the screen has only 1920*1080 lines, then KC's own Kauffman Stadium  Crown Vision screen is more than 5 times higher resolution and hince (By Jerry Jones own admission) would be the worlds biggest, most high-deffinition video board.  If I remember right the new K's screen has a total output of something along the lines of 8,500 H x 2,700 W.  Therefore its resolution is beyond 1080P HD, well beyond.

I think Populous is on pace to design every stadium ever.

It?s an exciting time for sports fans everywhere as cities around the world unveil the incredible stadiums that will host the events of tomorrow, and the designers and architects of Populous have them in spades. The latest competition-winning proposal from the HOK offshoot was recently selected as the primary stadium for the 17th Asian games in Incheon, South Korea. The adaptable stadium creates an abundance of green space within the city that will serve as a public park when not in use.
