Huh?  So if you're in my house and I don't like your anti-KU talk, I can smack you upside the head b/c it's "my property"?  You're basic rights don't extend to other's property?

Grabbing a guy and shoving him out of the place b/c "I said so", is bullshit tactics.  Come on.

crowds will start to even back out soon...everybody is just excited to check it out this summer.  right now it is much more enjoyable on weeknights.

I went on a recent Saturday afternoon and it was great... my friends and I were able to walk up and take a seat at the bar at each place we went... something that's never happened for me before.

Side tangent:    What time do the places on the upper level open?  My friends wanted to see them but they were all closed.  People would try the doors and peer in the windows and were gathered around waiting but to no avail.  We finally had to leave the district around 6:30 and by then everything up there was still closed.

I can totally buy most of these stories re: overly sensitive security in P&L, but in the many times I've been I have never had a problem of any type with those guys, or the dress code, or really the lines.  I simply don't go in places the have the humongous lines...we did get bottle service at Mosaic one night for a party of 10 or so and walked right in, past the long line and multiple bitching girlies  :D

P&L is at its best on weeknights, IMO, particularly Thursdays, where the scene is still quite lively but it's not "make me hate my life and everyone around me" busy.  Of course, that same brand of weekend crowding could just as easily be called "paying down the bonds for KCMO ASAP" busy, as well!

I had a great Wednesday eve last week, starting with happy hour at Bristol with a kickass table on the patio and whole lobsters for all, then moving along to Maker's Mark for a couple of bourbon flights while catching the Royals whipping the Cards, and finally to Angel's, where the actually played some Mindless Self Indulgence and served up wicked strong cocktails, albeit in shitty plastic glasses, and many a drunk girl danced around in the rafters.  Also, I rode the bull at PBR.  And it was fun, and I'm not afraid to admit that.  That night restored my faith in P&L.  No lines, good crowds, Royals win, lobster and bourbon.  And rock and a bull.  Yes.
are we spinning free?

Is there any bar where the bouncers are not meathead dickbags?

I did say "Besides myself" before that statement, so I was poking fun at myself. I was making a stereotypical response, no reason to further elaborate.

you do know that except for a select group of white folks no one else really can either afford the place or wants to spend their money at a so over-the-top corporate shit hole.

I'm poor...I'm just there racking up my credit card to infinity. Dinner and pints at Flying Saucer or Raglan Road...hooking up with friends at Angel's or Mosaic afterwards.

I still go and hit my favorites though...like Harry's CC, Grinders, and Dark Horse.

Honestly, I can't imagine dropping money there consistently.  It's a once-in-a-while destination, depending on what's going on, not a hangout, for me. I can't justify being a regular someplace that's largely that expensive.

Plaza.  Never had a problem in probably 100x out.  (Course, the clientele rarely causes any)

P&L bouncers are so beyond the pale, it's hard to believe anyone finds them comparable to typical bars.  They're not.  They're more like the movie ROAD HOUSE

I ascribe to a general rule of thumb:  Don't act like a drunken D-bag, and the bouncers won't bother you.  I mean, in my 3 years in the Plaza, DT, WP bar scene, a bouncer has not once touched, talked to, or even approached me.  Oddly, this includes the facist, totalitarian state that is the Power and Light District.  Just don't cause trouble and you'll be okay.  If you have a problem with this, host a backyard BBQ.

Act like a d-bag, and you'll be tossed.  If you act like a d-bag in P&L, the Royal Imperial Guard StormTrooping SS Agents will probably deal with you more harshly.  Why?  Because it's their job.  Deal with it.

Did you read his post? He said "white bread". Just wondered if he was white himself. No biggie.

Wrong, wrong and SOOOOO wrong.  I've witnessed with my own eyes, 3 occasions where I saw people being treated like crap by P&L thugs despite not acting like doosh-bags.

Again I say:  when law & order types like me are even noticing it, doesn't that suggest there's a potential issue?
