Target, Lowe's, Price Chopper and several other retailers are going in the Falls At Prairiestar K-7 at Prairiestar Pkwy. (95th St.) it's only proposed at this time.KCK wrote: Whats wrong with Westglen?
I guess Westglen was built just a year or so before the newer style theaters with better seating, sound, etc. I guess I'm just getting old because I remember when it opened.

Re: Lenexa CityCenter
That’s bizarre, they added to that theater not long ago to expand it from a 12 screen to an 18 screen. Did they just close some of the older theaters? I think the Legends might have also hurt that theater, it was the major theater for WyCo till the Legends opened.
I remember making special trips to Westglen when it first opened because it was the first and only theater in town with THX sound. It’s amazing how short the lifespan of these newer theaters is. At least they tend to be easily converted into other uses and don’t become eyesores like big boxes do.

It'll be interesting to see what comes about in terms of retail for this area - I hope they have a good marketing team.
And regarding the Westglen - the last time I went there a few years ago was the LAST time I'll ever go there...dirty dirty dirty theatres, lots of broken seats and very little a/c in the middle of summer. The newer Dickison theatres I've been to (the one in southern OP and one in Wichita that recently closed) I can't stand - they had/have the 'diamond' seating w/balconies and the entrances are from behind the screens.
Anyway, that's a rambling digression. I think that the cinema in the Legends HAS had an effect on other screens - more dining/shopping/entertainment options if you want more than just the movie. Been to the Cinemark in Merriam lately? Usually dead and the prices are like always under $6 or so.

I still remember how awesome that movie theater at 119th and Metcalf used to be. We went there all the time in HS. It was an eyesore for years, and now I have no idea what is there now.GRID wrote: That’s bizarre, they added to that theater not long ago to expand it from a 12 screen to an 18 screen. I'm wondering if the whole theater industry is in some danger.

From what I've seen out here, theaters are popping up all over. Of course each is nicer than the other. If the theater industry is in danger, I think its from arms race thinking, not lack of theater goers.

Re: Lenexa CityCenter
no but inside the golf clubhouse, they had renderings. the city center has a huuuuuge space that abuts the course that reads: "corporate HQ" i asked him what that meant and he said, oh we don't know maybe it's just going to be a big office building that's shared.
there's a ton of housing (125 houses?) going around that course and more if the office building comes quickly

Last month Lenexa voters approved a 3/8th cent sales tax for road improvement, parks, and the construction of a new civic center to be located in Lenexa City Center.

Is the one on Lackman and College still there? When I lived in Lenexa I always went to the one on 87th by Tanner's.kanasalumn wrote: I heard in the current construction against the highway will have a Paddy Quigleys and Quiznos.
