Another BBQ invasion...

After the invasion from the north last year, KC is now facing an invasion from the south. Rib Crib BBQ, based in Oklahoma with 30 locations, will open at Zona Rosa. Plans for expansion in the metro seem inevitable.

This kind of reminds me of Starbucks invasion. The chains often co-exist because they have different clientele. Often the Starbucks people are fast food coffee drinkers just as the Tony Roma's crowd are fans of Applebee's and the Olive Garden.

BBQ is so entrenched it KC that these chains aren't a threat. If anything they'll expand the market by pulling in new customers. Look at the Starbucks locations in the central city... Most are located near independent coffee houses that serve the locals and coffee-diehards, while Starbucks gets the visitors and chain-loving suburbanites passing through.

It appears that Oklahoma-based Rib Crib at Zona Rosa has now been replaced by an outlet of Smokehouse BBQ. Wonder if they got complaints, Rib Crib pulled out, or if they thought for PR sake they should have a local?

My bad...I missed it. Thought they just replaced one BBQ with another.

Still a unique situation to have 2 BBQs out there (1 local and 1 semi-national)
