"City officials passed the law because of complaints from residents and concerns that the city's image is suffering from an overabundance of droopy britches.
"Fashion and being almost half-naked are two different things," Collins said. "We want violators to know that this is a great concern, that the public doesn't tolerate it."
Pine Lawn appears to be the only city in the state to ban sagging, according to Gary Markenson, executive director of the Missouri Municipal League. Although a few places in the South have banned the practice, several cities, including Baltimore and Atlanta, are considering similar ordinances."

Fascists.
I'm don't think this passes Constitutional muster.

And they wonder why they can't find well-paying jobs.

Oddly, the councilman in Atlanta proposing this ban is black and is catching the usual Uncle Tom flack from many in the black community. I am opposed to this as it violates constitutional rights no matter how fucked up the bra strap, thong, and saggy draws brigade look while sporting their "fashion."

Plus, this situation basically will take care of itself when they realize or are told that nobody will give a decent job to someone whose underwear is showing.

One of the dumbest fashion trends ever conceived.
There is no fifth destination.

While we're at it, can we ban zubas and sleeveless mesh shirts?

Saggin' is so '90s! It's pretty much out of the mainstream in Denver - just thugs and gangstas.
The first time I saw it was back in 1990 in SoCal. Supposedly it started there around that time as a status symbol by thugs who were released from the L.A. County jail, where they were forced to wear "one size fits all", too big pants, so while they were doing time, they couldn't help but "sag". Back then it was a sign of being a gang member, but by the mid '90s, became a mainstream fad. Now it's kind of back to where it started.

back in the glorious mid to late 90s i was definitely one of those 6th-10th graders who wore enormous pants, sagging, with the cuffs cut off. i am proud to say that my friends and i were the first at ray-south middle to do so!
now the "alternative" kids wear super tight jeans, although they are more or less "sagging" too since they are often low-rise female jeans. this looks much better than the giant raver jeans, although i was too paunchy as a youth to get away with the painted-on jeans.
as for the saggy pants ban, i think it basically just gives the police a reason to hassle people who dress that way. feel like harassing some youths? saggy pants = instant probable cause. this just opens up yet another avenue for police harassment.

thats what we are talking about here, i live in the city of st. louis, but you won't catch me out of my car long in pine lawn.DanCa wrote: Saggin' is so '90s! It's pretty much out of the mainstream in Denver - just thugs and gangstas.
this ordinance is going to make "the life" more glamorous (in pine lawn). it's a nicely urban scaled municipality, though.
