What should KCK do with casino income?
What should KCK do with casino income? The city will be getting some money from casinos and the Woodlands racetrack soon, so what do you think should be done with it? I personally think the city should use money to help rebuild downtown, improve public transit, improve the walkability of the city (better sidewalks, crosswalks, and those cool traffic coundown signals like on the plaza). Also I would like to see another city pool, and road improvements, etc. The list is pretty big what I think needs to be done.

I think they should build a huge shopping/dining/entertainment mecca in Tonganoxie.

Sorry, the rainy weather has filled me with spite. I think KCK should use every penny of increased revenue it sees in the next 100 years for improvements to city services, infrastructure, and development inside of 635, as well as alleviating the property tax burden for citizens county-wide.

Two options:
1. Raze everything west of the Fairfax District
2. Try to attract some substantial businesses into downtown KCK to build up the other side of the river.

I'm pretty sure he's referring to the Quindaro corridor.

Re: What should KCK do with casino income?
I used to be ignorant enough that I said something to the effect of tearing out east KCK, but that was then.
The Quindaro area may be poor and much of it runned down, but it is home to many people. There is a sense of community. There is a lot of history. Tearing the area out would be like tearing down a small town. It would be wrong. Plus, the Parkwood neighborhood is relatively nice, has some really nice houses and a lot of potential. There is still quite a bit of historic commercial building stock along Quindaro that can be used in the future. The Hispanics seem to be moving further north, as their community is now well established along Minnesota Av. Maybe in the future Hispanics will do the same for Quidnaro. Dilute the segregation and help enthrive the area. I have worked in the area in the past, driven through many times, and more recently ridden the bus through the area fairly often. I've noticed a few Hispanics in the area already.

Re: What should KCK do with casino income?
Thanks for the implication of my ignorance, but I was merely joking. Seems like a lot of the members here take things way too seriously, and always find something to bitch about, whether its buildings they like being torn down, types of buildings they don't like being built, not emphasizing/revitalizing midtown but then complaining when revitalizations are made in certain areas that will only attract "yuppies," and just complaining in general.Stockton wrote: I used to be ignorant enough that I said something to the effect of tearing out east KCK, but that was then.
Of course the redevelopments have their faults, but nothing is ever perfect and not everyone can be pleased.

Re: What should KCK do with casino income?
So how about some sort of municipal-level grant and loan program designed to spur renovation of houses and commercial buildings in the most depressed areas of the city? What should KCK do with casino income?
