Not exactly a minor obstacle.

Lynne Horsley had an article on Saturday that went in to a bit of detail, although not in to route specifics.  There's also some info about the tax.

I do and I'm not worried.  This tax was going to expire anyway.  Clay's plan includes busses and there isn't any reason we can't get started with the busses to augment the budget.  We've now got a 25 year tax commitment to transit in place of a dwindling one that basically was put out to prevent cuts in things like Sunday service.

It is going to be okay.

I'd rather see a Funicular.

amen.  we have secured 25 years of funding for a transit system which (if implemented even partially) will drastically boost ridership, serve more commuters, and carries withit a score of both tangible and intangible fringe benefits, like economic growth, greater civic pride (or rather less civic shame), easier access to tourist attractions, and better connectivity within the city.  i have no qualms about reduction in bus service for the minimal segment of the population who use it if the trade off is better transit options for more people.  i fail to see how a(n almost guaranteed) net increase in public transportation usage is an unacceptable 'consequence' of overhauling a failed service.

I love the route. This is one of the routes that I had in mind when I first read this thread. I am wanting to see a rendering of the gondola system too.

Back then the city needed lightrail to spur up development in certain areas of Kansas City. Since the development is already happening, Kansas City dosen't need lightrail. The purpose of lightrail was to direct and re-direct development.

Who would of thought condos were the solution to development?

Seems like the purpose of the lightrail would be to haul the people who now live in this area BECAUSE of the development to different places in the city that are also developed in a comfortable environment that is also environmentally friendly...

Jim Oberstar will be the new House Chair on Transportation. He's from the Twin Cities and has pushed hard to fund Amtrak service and refurbish St. Paul's Union Station into a transit hub.

Daniel Inouye of Hawaii will be the Senate Chair on Commerce, Science and Transportation. He's also the ranking member of the Surface Transportation and Merchant Marine Subcommittee.

Assuming Pelosi and Reid let the ranking members become chairs.

How long do you guys figure that we will have to wait for City hall to get the balls to comment about this (besides Eddy)?

Madame Barnes do you have anything to say?

Mr. City Manager?

Is there a website or documentation of the exact plan?  That would truly help.

True, but it's not set in stone yet, that KC will indeed have light rail in the near future.

Transit planners and civic leaders have a much lower expectation than the pubic for reliable mass transit. The public wants it to happen and will pay for it. Now get your heads out of your asses and respect the public mandate no matter how much harder it will make your job.

Way to go, KC! I would've paid money to see the looks on the faces of the ultra-conservative regional transit planning crowd this morning.

You serious Clarke?

There's a reason it's called Mass TRANSIT. Light-Rail is for moving people around. You're right, the development has already begun without it, but with it we now have an efficient way of getting people to and from the development. The future T.O.D.'s that spur off the Light-Rail line is just an added bonus.

I haven't deleted any of your comments since you went away back in April or March.

This was for Paintfumes, who asked why his posts were being deleted. Unfortunately, someone deleted the post to which I was responding.

i still don't understand why it is desirable to have the train go down Broadway.  why not SW Trfcwy or Main (where it could link up with union station somehow).

i think it does connect to US...
...Broadway Boulevard, along the high ridge in Penn Valley Park to the junction of Kessler Road and Pershing Road, the west side of Union Station’s Carriage House...
this system would not be able to use the existing heavy rail tracks that run behind union station.
