Starlight Theatre's 2004 Season

Construction of the East Side Building will commence in Fall 2004. Your interest and private financial assistance is greatly appreciated by Starlight Theatre.

The new East Concession and Restroom Building replaces four structures to be demolished. Two small brick men’s and women’s restroom buildings, constructed in 1950, have become woefully inadequate in design, capacity and maintenance to meet the current theater needs (men’s restroom toilet/urinal count 14, women’s toilet count 14). A small concession building, constructed in the early 1960s, is inadequate in size (6 concession lines) and equipment to meet the current concession needs for this area of the theater, and its location restricts traffic flow before and after events. The highly popular Encore! Deck, which was demolished in 2002 due to structural deficiencies, will also be replaced as part of the new building.

Improving the services for this side of the seating arena, the new East Concession and Restroom Building increases the restroom capacity three times (men’s increases to 28, women’s to 45); Concession capacity is increased four times (to 21 lines); and the Encore! Deck is enlarged (seating for 210) and made permanent in concrete construction, additionally providing a roof for the lower concession area.

The total building area, including the open air Encore Deck, is 12,100 square feet. The building is to be constructed of brick and concrete block, with decorative cast stone and painted steel elements. The roof is primarily flat, framed with steel structural members and steel decking. A mechanical equipment penthouse, above the upper concession area, is concealed by a slopped roof, covered in standing seam copper roofing. All of these materials and their use are chosen to follow the material palette of the historic Starlight Theatre structures.

The upper and lower concession areas will be fitted with new high speed food and beverage service and food preparation equipment.

The site area will receive new walkways, attractive exterior lighting and signage, landscape irrigation system, and new landscaping in keeping with Starlight Theatre’s historic and handsome public gardens.

Shouldn't this go in General Kansas City, since Starlight is most certainly a unique KCMO treasure and not that of a suburb?
