No where. It's just not the same. In Europe, every Gilato place serves a large variety of marvelous gilato creations that just cannot be compared with the rubbish produced here. They serve you (at a table!), rather than expecting you standing in line, pay a fortune and then receive a tiny plastic container with a dinky plastic spoon with which to eat some sort of icy comestible that is no where near the quality of European gilato. Sorry. But my expectations are high.
Oh yes, and every true gilato place is not complete without a disgruntled Italian server- they're much too friendly here.

Just eat ice cream
Re: KC Gelato
There's a new place on the Plaza actually - Balsano's Gelato Cafe. I'm not a big Gelato fan, but this place looks like it might be pretentious enough for beccanator's sensitive European palette. I kid, I kid.

If it doesn't have street-level retail, it's an abortion.
Re: KC Gelato
Whoa. Is this a transplant of the former Balsano's at 45th and State Line? Here I been gimping along this summer on gelato from Cupini's and that little rental joint at the City Market...

Pretentious? I'm there! (but I'm skeptical!)

Swung by last night to peruse this place. Had a passable Italian wedding cake, and the coconut pineapple was pretty good. But that was about the raciest flavor. Not even stracciatella. And you had to wade through all the JoCo to even get close to the freezer case. Eck. I think I'll stick with the wee summer rental at the City Market.

No stracciatella!!!! I revoke my enthusiasm and flat out refuse to go! I grandiloquently turn my nose up at them.m.toast wrote: Swung by last night to peruse this place. Haven't I been seeing a sign lately for a new "Gelateria" someplace? Can anybody help me out?
