Pop or soda?
I always called it pop as a kid in KC. Then in college, I had a roomate from St. Louis who insisted soda was the correct name.
Now, soda to me seems like the correct reference. Pop is a sound. But what does the rest of the country think?

Re: Pop or soda?
It is "soda pop," so either is technically correct. Pop sounds much better to me, and "soda" is usually a good giveaway that someone is not from this area.
Re: Pop or soda?
soda. when i came out here from jersey..."pop" was plain silly to me. "pop" is music. talk about....
Re: Pop or soda?
I grew in central Illinois, where almost everyone calls it soda. Then, I went to college in Iowa, surrounded by Iowans and Chicagoans that say pop. To refer to it as pop, to me, evokes mental images of extreme fizziness combining with saliva to ruin the soda.
And then apparently, some misled people around here say pop too. Shame.

Re: Pop or soda?
I always say pop. The word soda is needlessly multisyllabic, verbose, sesquipedalian, and logorrheic.
photoblog.
until further notice i will routinely point out spelling errors committed by any here whom i frequently do battle wit
Re: Pop or soda?
At maybe 1/10 of a second per syllable, think of how much of your life you are wasting saying sodaTosspot wrote: I always say pop. The word soda is needlessly multisyllabic, verbose, sesquipedalian, and logorrheic.
Re: Pop or soda?
I use both terms. "Pop" = colas, while "soda" = all other carbonated soft drinks.
Based on the map I'm curious why there is that big cluster of "soda" people in southeastern Missouri sandwiched between "pop" and "coke" people and a thousand miles removed from the main "soda" parts of the country.

I used to say "pop", then I moved to where "soda" was said and now I can't stop saying "soda."
So, it's soda.
