Independence trauma center in jeopardy

Post by dangerboy »

The Star is focusing on trauma services in Johnson County and the recently announced re-opening of Overland Park Medical Center's trauma center, but Eastern Jackson County is also in the same boat. Indep. Regional's trauma center could close at the end of the month. The nuerosurgeons working there are leaving the state due to high malpractice insurance, and so far HCA hasn't found any replacements.

After moving here, I always wondered why most of the medical buildings etc are in Kansas. Even a high percentage of people in LS, BS, Liberty, Gladstone and other far away from Quivera places drive to see a doctor. Now they will be driving for their lives.

Another classic example of how Jeff City is ignoring KC and the problems the state line creates. Same goes for the demand law for hospitals. You can build a hospital in OP, but you have to get permission from Jeff City to build one in LS.

If some of these laws were relaxed there could be a building boom of medical offices, hospitals and the executive housing that comes with them in the Missouri suburbs.

I have a suggestion. Everyone on the Missouri side of the metro needs to go to Jefferson City and ask if you can move the state line to the Lafayette county line so KC can grow to it's potential under smart government leaders in Topeka and can get out of the shadow of St. Louis, Missouri. Jus' think, you'll have improved roads, improved schools, improved infrastructure, etc. Plus there'd be lots of love across the metro because we'd all be Jayhawkers. \:D/
The Pendergast Poltergeist Project!

I finally divorced beer and proposed to whiskey, but I occassionally cheat with fine wine.

Or how about vice versa? If Joco moved to Missouri y'all would get lower taxes and much better state support for your public schools. Oh, and you would also have evolution again. ;)

That is a very large area not to be adequately covered with a trauma center, especially with all the new growth.
You would think that the state should recognize that this could be a disaster if there were a major natural disaster or (God forbid) a 9/11 type of emergancy happened to Greater KC.
This problem should concern both sides of the state line.
