I still don't like this tax.
People are going to expect more and when they don't see a lot of improvements to the transit system, they will fail future transit taxes.
Speaking of transit taxes, why are we not voting on a larger system tax now that includes money for the existing system plus massive upgrades?
Yael Says in the Star today that we should be ready for the smart moves tax in 2008. 2008???? In 2008 we will vote to improve our bus system to the level of service that most cities had in 1985 and no rail.
Maybe I will feel better when the first phase of BRT opens.

Because it will take that long to get a new bi-state compact setup. We are looking at probably two years to debate it in both state legislatures, then another year to get it approved by Congress, then one more year to get it on the ballot in all five counties.GRID wrote:Speaking of transit taxes, why are we not voting on a larger system tax now that includes money for the existing system plus massive upgrades?

Re: Proposed reduction in KCATA service
Doesn't St. Louis have a bi-state compact with Illinois regarding public transportation? How can we find out the steps that they went through to get their system up and running?
The metro needs to create a brand new regional, bi-state transortation authority, with a metro-wide tax. It needs to have representatives from those areas that are served by public transportation. As it is now, the ATA has reps from areas that do not contribute tax money, and does not have ATA service. The metro, the Bus (kck) and the JO is a dumb way to provide public transporation to this area. We don't need 3 different public transportation entities in one metro area. The public transporation entities in the KC area is a good example of cross state/cross county rivalry and bickering we need to get over.

Are you sure we're talking about the same God here, because yours sounds kind of like a dick.
