Do you think there will be 1000 soon (if even at all)?

By BILL GRAHAM
The Kansas City Star
A $180 million settlement in the Taum Sauk Reservoir collapse in eastern Missouri will provide a long-sought benefit for Kansas City trail enthusiasts.
The cross-state Katy Trail could move closer to the metropolitan area — to Pleasant Hill — under the settlement. Clearing brush from the trail’s path could begin as early as next spring.
...
The article said they were negotiating with UP for rail beds that would carry it from pleasant hill to the TSC.DaveKCMO wrote: do we know exactly where the trail will go once it leaves pleasant hill towards lee's summit?
It won't literally end on TSC property, but in that vicinity. It's too early to know exactly where the terminus will be. The future connection to the Plaza would be via a new trail along the Blue River - you would go south on the Blue River Trail to Brush Creek, then west on the Brush Creek Trail to the Plaza. Or you could north along the Blue River to the Missouri River and get to Downtown via the future extension of the Riverfront Trail.KCTigerFan wrote: Ironic that it will end at the TSC. Considering that they don't allow bikes on their property!
Hopefully they will extend it down Blue Parkway and into the Plaza/Trolley Trail.
still taking comments. we must get more comments than the competing road projects!DaveKCMO wrote:if you want the katy trail extended to KC, submit a supportive comment for this funding application (scroll to bottom) to acquire the necessary right of way from the railroad:

Gov. Jay Nixon today announced that by the end of 2016, Missouri State Parks expects to complete the extension of the Katy Trail from Windsor to Pleasant Hill along the Rock Island Trail State Park. The 47.5-mile-long extension will allow hikers and bicyclists greater access from the Kansas City region to the 240-mile long Katy Trail, which runs from Clinton to St. Charles County.

Jay Nixon and Missouri State Parks in opening the 47.5-mile Rock Island Trail State Park, which serves as an extension of the Katy Trail. A dedication ceremony will take place Saturday, Dec. 10 at 2 p.m. at the trailhead located at 308 W. Commercial Street (Cass County Fairgrounds).
Help us celebrate this important trail day and honor those who have helped to make it possible. Please also plan to join the Governor on the trail following the ceremony.
