Charleston has recently been named the #1 tourist destination city in the US. Not a surprise to me that BA would choose to fly there over KC or STL.

i'd much rather see KLM/AF than BA.
Neither of those fly to mid sized airports so I doubt we see either one of those. I think it is more likely to be Delta if it is a legacy type airline.

Delta hub in Europe is Paris, correct? So, would get Air France connections to ME and Africa.

Paris and Amsterdam. Yeah, IF Delta started to Paris then you could connect to AF flights. IF they flew to Amsterdam then you could connect to KLM flights.

But, KLM doesn’t fly to midsized cities?

The Delta, KLM, and AF joint venture generally bases the operator on who has the stronger Point of Sale (POS). In this case, Delta would by far have the stronger POS as the vast majority of trips would be KC>Europe>KC and not vise versa.

Nope. Delta flies the IND to CDG(Paris) route.

AF flies to ATL/Detroit/SFO/LAX/Houston/New York/Boston/DC/Miami/Seattle/Minny and soon to be Dallas in the US. So basically Delta hubs and big cities.

KLM flies to ATL/Boston/Chicago/Houston/Vegas/LAX/Miami/New York/SFO/Salt Lake City/DC. So basically same deal as above. Delta hubs and big cities.

^ Was surprised neither flew to Denver. Looks like most European flights from there are Norwegian Air. Interesting.

True, but they have solid coverage through other gateways.

Lufthansa flies to Munich and Frankfurt
Untied flies to Tokyo
BA flies to Heathrow

Looks like Frontier is dropping RDU, but not super surprised since Southwest runs it now.

Not surprised at all. F9 drops/adds routes frequently (too frequently in my opinion).

Icelandair is buying WOW - Not sure if this is good or bad for the KC flight

I don't think it will have any effect other then cementing Icelandair's future.

Icelandair pricibg took a 20% jump November 1st. Not sure if it’s related. Less competition = higher pricing.

So Alaska now has increased the gap in service to Portland from January to May 15. Since Southwest isn't running it for April and May, now that means no nonstops to Portland for April and half of May. So that is frustrating. Starting to wonder if Alaska will just cut it all together at this point. They have been cutting PDX from other cities in the area STL/OMA/etc.

PDX was seasonal last year as well. I think the issue has more to do with the Horizon pilot shortage

It wan't off season for this long though. I think this year it came back earlier. I know there wasn't any point when we didn't have any flights to PDX from anyone. I think last year it was only off from Jan- March or April. But maybe Southwest wasn't seasonal last year to PDX. I can't remember.

People have been saying it is a horizon shortage for over a year now, but it hasn't stopped them from adding other routes, so I think that is an excuse. They could have put them on the routes they cut back instead of adding new ones if it really was the issue.

Its probably more efficient and the yields are probably higher on horizon point to point routes out west like Reno to Boise or Sonoma to Orange County. 3.5hr flights on an E175 probably aren't too profitable.
