Wait, someone correct me if I'm wrong. Two options:

1) private financing with private bonds repaid by use fees

2) public bonds paid for by use fees

In both cases we hold an election, yes?

Is the whole idea that by putting it solely on private bonds, voters will care less even though it will cost them more?

Yep. Vote will occur no matter if its necessary or not. No matter the funding source. The city already committed and no one has the political will to back out.

But also, as KCPowercat alluded to,

3). "private" financing/issuance of tax exempt bonds (ding, ding, ding).

private financing polled well, so i'd expect that to be the chosen option -- despite shields' repeated efforts at being the "anti-Sly".

Wouldn't that require transferring the airport to them?
Could be done like the Zoo.

Lots of things poll well, but it doesn't necessarily follow that it makes sense.

Actually, it's one of only three things that moves the needle. The other two are negative and no one wants to go there yet.

Yeah I'd bet anything the private route is chosen....his comment was interesting. I'm not sure what he meant by another agency....and another agency issuing bonds wouldn't be like them getting controlling "ownership" of the airport.

pretty sure private ownership of the airport would be a non-starter -- with the council and with KCMO voters. i'm not even sure i would vote for that.

I think it polls well because, despite considerable effort to ensure that people are aware that the cost of the airport does not come out of the taxes they pay, people still believe that it does and see private financing as an alternative - erroneous as it is.

A lady rang my door bell last night and asked if I knew 'what was going on with the airport.' I asked 'you mean the single terminal proposal?' She said she was surprised because everyone she'd spoken to in the neighborhood (Volker) either didn't know about it or was rude. She said a couple of people even slammed the door on her.

She asked if I wanted a yard sign and gave me a flyer, and I noticed it said Burns & McDonnell on it. I said 'so is the sign supporting the single terminal in theory or for the Burns & McDonnell proposal only?' She said it was for Burns & McDonnell but since this was her first day working the neighborhoods, she didn't have any more details.

I'm glad someone is getting out to talk to residents, but hope they get someone a little more informed about what they're presenting.

Why would they send someone out that can't answer "who" let alone "why" ?????

Thought of an idea for the new terminal if it comes to fruition. Have a college basketball experience section in the terminal. Something like famous last second shots. If someone hits the shot, they're given a prize, tickets to CBE, free basketball, autographs, etc. would definitely make for a unique airport experience and possibly lighten the atmosphere. Granted this would likely take some space, but it also could showcase what the CBE has to offer. Thoughts?

That huge candle convention this weekend caused 2 your bag checking delays according to troops on the ground. This is the biggest weakness if kci...it can't handle any sort of demand.
