I'm in San Diego and these scooters are everywhere as well as the bikes. People just leave them anywhere and everwhere

I think that's what the e stands for.brewcrew1000 wrote:... everwhere

Re: e-Scooter Share
These e bike and e scooters will kill all the bikes at fixed stations. Noticed one here and the rack was full but bird, lime, and the others are being ridden all over and they are being dumped in random spots. Lots of them are kicked over, these scooters and bikes are gonna create a problem. I really hope these companies don't operate in NYC.

Re: e-Scooter Share
Is now more widely viewed as a lawless industry looking to be regulated. Just a matter of time that some structure is required in cities with a lot of issues/complaints, such as designated parking locations and/or limited number of scooters/bikes per area. Even most complainers don't want it to go away, they just want some boundaries. Though even if regulated, if not enforced...
Re: e-Scooter Share
The only valid complaint I've come across is people going too fast down sidewalks with pedestrians. All companies educate riders on this, but it's much more a city infrastructure issue than the companies doing anything wrong.

Re: e-Scooter Share
I just dont understand how the bikes or scooters can be prevented from vandalism? How can u stop a group of teens who are bored and they decide they want to throw a bunch of scooters or bikes in the missouri river?
Re: e-Scooter Share
Shouldn't be much of an issue in KC because by the time you get up to speed you'll come to a missing curb ramp or fresh sidewalk wedge--both certain to slow a speeding scooter in a single bound.bspecht wrote:The only valid complaint I've come across is people going too fast down sidewalks with pedestrians. Re: e-Scooter Share
Between the GPS and the alarm, there is enough risk of getting caught that I don't think it will be a huge issue. Plus, bored teens can do a lot of things. Whats to stop them from shoplifting, or puncturing the tires of our current bike share bikes, or committing any number of minor crimes? Shoplifting is a good example actually, just like a store, bike and scooter share companies will just write off the few occurrences and charge everyone else a bit more.brewcrew1000 wrote:I just dont understand how the bikes or scooters can be prevented from vandalism? You don't. That's one benefit to the physical docks having a wheel lock built inbrewcrew1000 wrote:I just dont understand how the bikes or scooters can be prevented from vandalism? whereas you have this as an alternative
https://www.theverge.com/2018/2/26/1705 ... ce-belgium
it's possible to destroy enough bikes that no price increase can make up for it

Re: e-Scooter Share
I have faith in this now.Its 930pm and I'm staying up near hillcrest 2 miles north of downtown and I'm seeing some guy picking up the scooters and putting them in his car. They must have a general area they store them
Re: e-Scooter Share
Saw them lined up on every block or so down 12th street this morning.

Let the carnival begin.
Re: e-Scooter Share
If you see one badly parked (the ones above are parked in the "furniture zone", which the app coaches you on):
- Call the toll free number on the deck and report it
- Pick it up and move it (it might beep when you do)
- Report to 311
When I did my second ride today, the app required me to upload a pic of the parked scooter to confirm it was correct -- before it stopped charging me.
Re: e-Scooter Share
That's not going to work if it's a parking spot.
Re: e-Scooter Share
That's the furniture zone. It's where you'll find street trees, bike racks, bus stop signs, and parking meters. Park your car accordingly.grovester wrote:That's not going to work if it's a parking spot.

Re: e-Scooter Share
It's all about being nice to other people at this point.
The definition of a bicycle actually excludes scooters in 70-1
The rest of code uses the word scooter as being something with a saddle (seat)
So as a result it's up to you on where to ride. The sidewalk is fine and so is the street just like how a kid riding a toy scooter would.
Someone could actually leave this in an actual parking spot under current code. It's no more incorrect than putting a chair in a spot to save the spot. The owner of the lot would need to police this. For a city owned lot they would need to treat it like any private property left in a bad space.
For the sidewalk the defined standard should be like sidewalk cafe placement. You can put them outside the future zone if there's room. Most blocks next to the street makes sense but I would put it next to the building before blocking a bus stop, for example

Re: e-Scooter Share
The Bird app shows 50+ scooters (maybe over 70) in Greater Downtown area but none in Midtown/Westport/Plaza area. Maybe they'll migrate naturally? Or would they move them back downtown if found elsewhere?
