DaveKCMO wrote: operationally, riverfront would only become a spur if you extend north of the river on the heart of america bridge. as of today, it would simply be the northern terminus of a 7-mile (!) streetcar line.
However, it might be just another stop if a dedicated transit bridge is built with a NKC extension?

A dedicated bridge was $40 million in 2014.
A single track lane on the hoa bridge was $15-35 million

I would hope they would blow up the current casino and build a new one much bigger and nicer, with a hotel added.

Sure. It's pretty much a dump...it's also low on why this is a good idea.

If the casino isn't chipping in for the dedicated stop then this should be killed immediately.

If the casino isn't chipping in for fully funding the dedicated stop then this should be killed immediately.

I actually agree. It's being discussed because that is an option.

A connection to factory jobs in the east bottoms would be beneficial if the system is also expanded to more working class neighborhoods.

Yeah if this could be moved towards the east bottoms that could eventually be the endpoint for a potential north south line with prospect and chesnut.

The key is going to be figuring out how to greatly reduce the build cost per mile.

And address the constant bottlenecks of freight trains that would impact streetcar schedules.

I didn't think about that, and you're right, that would be a good case for the casino not covering costs beyond its doorstep. I have a feeling it will just extend the spur to the doorstep of the casino, though. Which I hope happens btw.

No TIGER grant. Winners announced yesterday. Over 60% went to rural projects! Very few transit winners, and zero rail projects. Welcome to Trumpland!

PortKC still plans to fund this without the grant, right? Where do they expect to get the money from?

If I understand correctly, PortKC can finance using bonds that don't require a city vote.

What happens with the Plaza Extension if there is not federal money? Scale Back design? Single Track sections?
