city staff has proposed creating parking benefit districts that would use meter and ticket revenue to improve neighborhoods. first official public airing will be at the january parking and transportation commission (which covers downtown only).
here's the draft policy: http://transitkc.com/wp-content/uploads ... wDraft.pdf
these districts support market-based pricing of on-street parking to ensure constant availability. returning part of the revenue to the affected neighborhoods increases the likelihood that businesses and property owners will support charging for parking.

Re: Parking Benefit Districts
I think this is a great idea, i am all for this. I really think the city just needs to start requiring everyone to purchase annual overnight parking passes or risk being ticketed. I don't think it would kill people to shell out 20-30 bucks for an annual parking pass for the privilege to park overnight on a city street.
Pretty much every urban city in the US has some kind of overnight parking fees.
