Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC
I've seen them used when there clearly was a big event downtown.
Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC
yes. you might see something like what prospect MAX is doing, where the smart kiosks are integrated with the shelter and real-time arrival information (instead of separate LED text display).earthling wrote:Any talks of including 'smart city' sensors, kiosks, etc with the extension?

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC
They are very profitable and the city wants to keep throwing them up because of that. Hopefully we find an actual use for them...like I don't know an actual pedestrian walking navigation map instead of using Google maps.

If they're used, then good. Personally, I can't imagine anything on there that I couldn't get in my phone without rubbing my hands where 100s of other people have already. Guess that makes me a germphobe.

good oleopathic coatings repel the oils on people's hands. that will cover like 99% of issuesbeautyfromashes wrote:If they're used, then good. any germs on someone's hands is going to be on door nobs, railings, etc all around and widely distributed and not touching a screen isn't going to change that.

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC
Yeah I didn't say they were used. They are profitable as they are little billboards when not being interacted with. Most of the time
Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC
They have potential. I like the idea of them being all over the city. Like some quasi-dystopic cyberpunk aesthetic. I love it.
Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC
Hopefully they have them set up to work as emergency signage in a disaster situation. Active shooter, Alt-left invasion, and whatnot.
Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC
I'm getting a post-anarchist cyberpunk hard on right now just thinking about it. Part of me wonders if I just like KC development because I want to live some Blade Runner-esque fantasy here.shinatoo wrote: Alt-left invasion.

Just please, no flying cars. Unless they fly themselves. People driving on roads are enough of a menace to other vehicles, people, and property.

flying cars won't be like BTTF where people are flying themselves.mean wrote:Just please, no flying cars. Unless they fly themselves. People driving on roads are enough of a menace to other vehicles, people, and property.
No insurance company will touch them unless any such tech is fully automated.
