Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC
So I assume the bus driver has a way of knowing if the pass is valid by just looking at it, and there are some clever security features to make it difficult to replicate or whatever?
Also, why don't we have that? Shouldn't that be like, the second or third thing on the list of how to be a smart city vis-a-via transit?

already in progress, starring me!swid wrote:This sounds like a great idea as one of the Downtown Neighborhood Association's "walking" tours in the summer months. Just brand it as the "road trip" event and you're set.

CTA you can pay with NFC android/apple pay... It sucks though.

Check out the Tri-Met app. No fare box update required.earthling wrote:That would be ideal but a pricey refresh of all fare boxes.

The image of the ticket is animated and has some letter codes on it. Google image search has some good examples. https://www.google.com/search?q=trimet+ ... ^ dumb! Can we just replace our elected officials with an online poll?
Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC
Given the populist political winds in KC - everything the City does is a backroom conspiracy to benefit the wealthy in the Market to Plaza corridor - I think encouraging a grass roots effort makes sense.

If it is a city-wide vote any expansion effort will lose (see past efforts except for one). Any expansion effort coming from the top down will lose (see last expansion vote). Line that was pushed by locals who wanted it passed (see phase 1).

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC
Looking forward to seeing an application of what was learned about public engagement from the last TDD election. Personally hoping for a center alignment to get serious consideration.

Having the phase 2 terminus at 51st/Brookside would give access to the Whole Foods too! I really hope this gets going. I'd love to see and ride all the way from City Market to UMKC!

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC
So one question that will come up from midtown and I think would be good info is the sales tax increase. Many see their sales tax over 10% already in restaurants and due to the simple math, they kind of freak. If we are adding in streetcar and then capital improvements in April, there could be backlash.
So I found the breakdown of our sales tax rate but I can't find when any of these are set to expire... Does anyone know where to find that info? Is the April capital improvements push just a renewal of the current?
State is 4.225%
KCMO capital improvement 1%
KCMO transit. .5%
KCMO ATA. .35%
KCMO fire .25%
KCMO public safety .25%
KCMO parks .5%
Then restaurants have 2% tacked on. Hotels 7.5%
Lastly dependent on where you are... Let's say p&l, you have a 1% for streetcar (which wouldn't change) and 1% for p&l itself.
