We have a very exciting ANNOUNCEMENT!
Watch Cliff Drive President, Adam Schieber, and Vice President, Will Royster, tonight on Channel 41 at 6:00 p.m..
They will announce and highlight a new grant that we received to pave a new bicycle/pedestrian trail from Cliff Drive to the River Market! This has been a goal of Cliff Drive Corridor Management and bicycling clubs for years! This will finally tie an amazing system of trails, roads, and pathways together! Imagine being able to ride your bike, jog, or walk to the River Market, without dodging traffic! The tourism potential for this expanded trail will be huge!

Down the hill to 2nd and possibly 1st st?

A bridge over i-35 would be expensive but more direct.
Any closer to independence ave and they have a cliff to contend with
The long way around they might as well do sidewalks

Stunt ramp over I-35. Not enough funding for the whole bridge.

didn't sound like any bridges would be used.

Maybe it's 2nd/Dora which will eventually connect to the 2nd street trail that goes under 9?

So this project was eventually funded and I think started construction. Does anyone know if it has been completed?

There's a retaining wall and path graded visible from I-35 NB. It's well along but not complete

It's marked with sharrows and bike route signs directing one to Fifth, so far as I have noticed.

So in other words, it's poorly marked

Checked out the trailhead in Columbus Park, needs better marking from RM and perhaps a little beautification.

Putting a bench or two with trash receptacles along the climb might be a nice touch.

Cliff Drive connector trail open to the public
A dream project nearly a decade in the making came to fruition at a 3 p.m. ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday, June 1.

The new Cliff Drive and Spirit of KC Scenic Byways Trail is a 10-foot wide, 3,643 linear-foot walking and bicycling trail that connects the southwest gate of Cliff Drive (near Lexington Ave. and The Paseo) through Kessler Park to 3rd and Holmes in Columbus Park.

The Cliff Drive Connector is very cool, thanks for posting Fang.

I recently moved to City Market and will certainly try using this to ride my MTB from home to the trails within Kessler Park. I had been thinking of just heading up Independence but this is an excellent, car free shortcut.

KC has to be one of the few cities where one can live in a truly urban neighborhood and ride a mountain bike out the front door to decent single track trails within a few short miles. Kessler, Rozarks (near 39th/KU Med), Roanoke, and Swope parks have all had good to excellent trail systems built by the Urban Trail Co. folks in recent years. Great stuff.

Want to see Penn Valley next, and maybe an MTB hub at the old Lakeside Nature Center in Swope.

Sadly, I don't see this getting much use from the general public, but would love to be proven wrong. Hopefully it stays clean and safe as well.
