It's not all good news for MetroLink. They have had to cut back on bus service in order to keep the rail service running. A couple years ago they had a big set-back when St. Charles County voters rejected bringing rail to their county. They were literally afraid that minorities would come out on the train to rob them.
However, St. Louis should be congratulated for the vision and courage to embrace mass transit across state lines. They were also fortunate to have an airport in the inner suburbs, so it was easy to add that link in the first phase.

Atlanta went through the same thing a decade ago. A lot of the northern areas, such as Buckhead, didn't want the MARTA rail line extended into their areas for fear of bringing more crime.dangerboy wrote:A couple years ago they had a big set-back when St. Charles County voters rejected bringing rail to their county. They did this in Dallas, too. They built a beautiful new rail system, which has plenty of riders. I was there last week, riding the red line, and I spotted a notice on the wall of the train listing service reductions/eliminations for their bus system.dangerboy wrote:It's not all good news for MetroLink.
