Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC
I appreciate the show of attempting to get along and find common ground, I just don’t think it will happen on either side. I’m also not sure why we have to bend over backwards for businesses makings millions of dollars and having to spend a miniscule percentage of that when residents in the districts with very small incomes, many on fixed incomes, are paying a larger percentage. If Westport wanted to participate, they could have. Of course, getting any concessions would be another matter. The streetcar group seems pretty decided on all issues and inflexible to any modification or change.

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC
The wandering over to Broadway was put to bed years ago and Westport was part of that discussion...Nigro admitted to that a while back in his testimony to the council.....it doesn't make any sense and Westport businesses will see that once it's all up and running. Kowtowing to every business demands is how we get ourselves into dumb designs.
What they (westport) needs to be working towards is improving the appeal of Westport Rd. from Main to broadway...them being an anchor on the end as a pedestrian draw will be a huge win for them and the area between....

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC
Bending over backwards for those making millions is literally the American Way at basically every level of politics. To do otherwise is almost like a minor socialist revolution. We're seizing the means of... transportation! Except not really because pretty much everyone will still drive all the time and there's not any serious risk to the profits these people enjoy. They just don't want to have any of their wealth taken and spent on things which may not directly benefit them. And, of course they don't. But, tough. If we are not capable of innovating and creating a system that works for everyone, this is what we get. Deal with it.beautyfromashes wrote:I appreciate the show of attempting to get along and find common ground, I just don’t think it will happen on either side. I'm sure they're fine with the streetcar per se, I mean it's a better version of their trolley, they just don't want to pay for it.

There are two Westport CIDs. One is a property assessment and one is a 1/2 cent sales tax.
You can review their proposed budgets here:

The sales tax boundary is in the documents found here:

Something that is interesting in reviewing those documents.
Westport (which is the small, heart of westport-not the broader westport) takes in 500,000 in annual revenue from a 1/2 sales tax. While the city was discussing adding another CID to PnL, they said that a 1 cent sales tax can pull approx. $1 million per year. They are nearly identical in their revenues.

Thanks. My question wasn't clear...I was referring to the number Dave had in his tweet specifically concerning Kelly'skboish wrote:There are two Westport CIDs. One is a property assessment and one is a 1/2 cent sales tax.

Yet again we see Dave is sitting in coffee shops for hours serving as a notary for the mail in election process.
This has to be the biggest deal thing he does because unlike collecting signatures -for- it during the petition process he’s being a notary for people voting against it too.

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC
Selfishly, it gives me a chance to explain WHY we are doing it this way (cost, city failures, state laws, etc.). After my spiel, people are like, “wow, elections are expensive!” or “thanks for raising all that money quietly for two years!”.flyingember wrote:Yet again we see Dave is sitting in coffee shops for hours serving as a notary for the mail in election process.

A neighbor mistakenly threw out the blue envelope. Can she get another one DT at the Jax Co Courthouse or is it now impossible for her to vote?

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC
Stop location update
Linwood stop moved to 31st
Cleaver stop moved south of intersection
http://kcstreetcar.org/wp-content/uploa ... ay2018.pdf
page 25-26 covers the stop move reasons and why they're not consolidating 43rd and 45th.
One interesting thing from page 24, not all of Westport is within a 10 minute walk even if the stop is moved south to Westport Rd. The line would have to detour to Broadway to get to that point
