You'd be surprised how much military hardware Israel produces for themselves. Their homemade tanks are generally regarded as best in the world and they have evolved the F-16 into a unique aircraft. They are well trained but like any army in the world, they have a difficult time fighting an enemy that is indistinquishable from the civilian populace. Iran has a huge population an is well enough armed to create a problem for any nation....(some of their more modern hardware provided courtesy of North Korea) and are believed to have provided the drone to Hezbollah that hit the Israeli ship.
