What High School and / or College did you graduate from?

Come here to talk about topics that are not related to development, or even Kansas City.

chrizow wrote: yeah, there are basically 7 correct answers to that question if you are from St. Louis.

the famous STL "where did you go to high school?" should be recast as "which elite private school did you go to?"  i've seen many a glazed eye when someone answers "Fort Zumwalt" or "McCluer North" or "Vashon."

the correct answer is: DeSmet, MICDS, SLUH, Chaminade, CBC, maybe a Parkway.
there isn't any correct answer to that question. st. louis sucks.

the funny thing about this high school question is that the folks who seem to be talking a lot of urbanity on this board are mostly the elitist preppies. they're really down with it.

not seeing hardly any kc area public schools. maybe you went to a public school before mom and dad made you go to pius or rockhurst? don't know. tell us if you did.

poor guy. me too. i just have to laugh. what are you going to do though.

i grew up on 9th and prospect when prospect was the dmz btween the blacks to the west and the whites and italians to the east.  you didn't wanted to get caught on the wrong side of the line by yourself. humdingers was considered an open city. you could go there and not get your ass kicked.

we lived in raskob manor, those apartments on prospect. mom decided to move after 3 breakins and after the dealer across the hall got shot for the third time in 6 months. i also saw a guy get shot across the street in the parking lot where speedy's is now when i was about 10 or 11. he was coming from the prospector lounge and guess someone had a beef with him and followed him to his car and shot him in the leg. he screamed like a bitch after getting shot. so he was either a big baby or it really hurt.

went to whittier on 10th and bales and then northeast junior thru the 8th grade. mom moved us to beautiful parvin estates in the summer before 9th grade. i thought i was in heaven compared to living in northeast. didn't even know that parvin was section 8 until i was an adult. i just thought that folks with money had better choices than there.

i also learned to cook a very good fried spaghetti and baloney dinner when i was a kid.

Ah yes, good ole Parvin Estates.
:-s

I had a few friends during middle and high school that lived there so I've spent a fair amount of time there.  The cool thing was that most of the kids that lived there would also be friends with the rich kids from Briarcliff...not that uncommon.

That's a good idea to add the colleges as well.  Count me in as well for KU.

Michael® wrote: There were very serious DMZ's. I remember when blacks couldn't walk north of the Avenue. Humdingers is (was) a KC classic. As was Tiger's Records on the Avenue. At one time KC's most notorious music store and head shop.  Humdingers was owned by the Pace family and my cousin Danny was the counter guy. He always carried a gun and had a baseball bat. I used to play basketball at Woodland school. That playground was so dangerous back in the 80's....only one way in and one way out surrounded by 10 feet tall chain link.... they've paved it and turned it into a parking lot now.

that whole area was rough. you really had to know somebody to be safe.

when i was 10 my mom put me in the boy scouts at st micheals? down by wayne minor. i was the only white guy in there. had a friend called "june bug" from wayne minor and we used to go messing around. as long as i was with him and his friends no messed with me. by myself i could also drop his name and others and i would be o.k.
