KS and MO stats

Post by earthling »

Some random stats about both states. Right click each link and open in New Tab.

KS is less white (76%) than MO (80%), with more Latino of course but also more Asian and Black/other picking up % wise.

KS is growing with international in-migration but domestic out-migration rather high this decade. KS hasn't had domestic growth since the late 90s. Will KS improve with the end of the Brownback era?

MO had poor domestic out-migration early this decade but improving, with international in-migration more than offsetting last 2 years.

KS drops significantly in GOP identity but also some DEM since 2013, mostly Indie identity. MO grows GOP identity, shrinks DEM but higher in Indie. MO slightly more GOP identity than KS now.

This is caused by farm consolidation and the decline of small towns. The growth of corporate farming means there's less white farmers living on a farm and more migrant farm workers who move from farm to farm.

This claims the population peak of rural Kansas was around 1970. They mention that immigrant labor is not replacing population growth

We already know that the top 5 counties (Johnson, Sedggwick, Shawnee, Wyandotte, Douglas) have more people than the next 99 and Johnson County has more people than the bottom 81 counties.

The local numbers are also changing rapidly. Olathe is around 5-6% hispanic while the school district is past 16% hispanic

The future of Kansas is a multi-cultural state reliant on Kansas City more and more.

The coming water shortage is going to depopulate about a third of the state in the coming decades as farms fail
