In an interview with Missouri Senator Claire McCaskill, Rachel Maddow declares she thinks McCaskill could definitely win the presidency if she ran.

Re: Politics
A few nights ago the Daily Show ran a clip showing a few US Senate candidates and how they sounded like Conservative candidates running for office. The only problem was these were individuals running as Democrats on the November ballot. With friends like this who needs enemies.

Re: Politics
Poll shows Brownback down 7. Kris Kobach is now trailing his Dem opponent (former Republican Jean Schodorf) for Sec of State after a controversy in which Kobach would not allow Democrat Chad Taylor off the November ballot for US Senate, despite the fact Taylor has withdrawn. Kobach presumably wants Taylor on the ballot to draw votes from Greg Orman, who is challenging Republican Pat Roberts. Roberts is in a dead heat in the polls with Orman, who has not said which party he will caucus with in the Senate, but ran as a Dem in 2008.

No he's not. He's trailing. Even with Taylor still in the mix and taking points.

Great first installment on the back story of the Kansas political mess from Jonathan Katz.

Re: Politics
I'm guessing the kind of person that will care about a candidate legally being in a strip club 16 years ago as a 26 year old single man is the kind of person that wasn't going to vote for Paul Davis in the first place.
Kansas governor candidate Paul Davis was at strip club raided for drugs in 1998

Hey they are bringing in Palin to help him build back up his credibility so I am sure he will have that turned around in no time. &&&KCMax wrote:Yea, I saw the PPP poll today. Barbara Shelly rips into Brownback
The relentless lies of Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback
The relentless lies of Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback
http://www.kansascity.com/opinion/opn-c ... 15118.htmlI have never seen a public official lie as easily and as relentlessly as Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback. That sounds harsh, and it is possible that Brownback actually believes his own mythology. But much of what he has told the citizens of Kansas is flat out wrong.

Re: Politics
I'm normally not a big critic of negative political ads - they're part of the game, but these Brownback ads are beyond disgusting (strip club one, the one race-baiting with the murderers with the lifted death penalty).

Re: Politics
According to the news programs this morning it looks like the GOP will have a majority in the Senate and likely gain at least 10 seats in the House. The Dems though may take a few governorships away from the GOP.
Tuesday night should be very interesting.

Re: Politics
Senate and Governorships are really a reflection of the wave elections those candidates were voted in on. Senate candidates from 2008, when Obama swept into office, are getting voted out. Governor candidates from 2010, when the GOP swept into office, are also getting voted out.aknowledgeableperson wrote:According to the news programs this morning it looks like the GOP will have a majority in the Senate and likely gain at least 10 seats in the House. GOP will pick up a few seats in the House, but I disagree on it being a very interesting night. This country is stuck in a serious rut, politically, and it looks like more of the same.
Re: Politics
All this will do is kick the can to 2016 nationally, which is when a ton of the gop is up in the Senate.

Re: Politics
Really hard to tell at this time. Yes, it could be a continuation of the past but with the GOP having a majority in both Houses can they work together and get legislation passed to forward it to Obama to sign. How will a Dem minority in the Senate work with the GOP majority, especially those Dems up for election in 2016 in Red or Purple states? And will Obama veto bills forwarded by a GOP Congress?and it looks like more of the same
The lame duck session may tell a lot.

Re: Politics
Well that was much, much worse than I expected. That was a butt-whipping. Will be interested in seeing the post-mortems. I apologize AKP, that was definitely interesting. Shitty, but interesting.
Yea, I see Obama getting the veto pen ready. Hard to see what gets done the next two years. Immigration reform seems dead to me.

Re: Politics
Quite a few pundits seeing a repeat of '98. Clinton working with Congress to get things done. Obama gives in a little for his legacy, GOP gives in a little to show they can govern instead of being the party of NO.
