I heard something today that is hard to believe or maybe just hard to understand the reasoning.

An Amish man selling Amish made furniture told me that the Amish use electric power tools to make their furniture but that it is OK with their religion because they are "not on the grid." They use diesel powered generators to run them.

I didn't say anything. The man was truly sincere, but how weird is that?

I don't pay anything to recycle. I take a bunch of stuff to a drop-off place about every 2 months. Is that so hard?

I'm going to buy a hybrid or fuel-cell or whatever is the best at the time I have money. And, I would NEVER drive an SUV unless I lived on a ranch or something.

I'm not sure, but I think the power company will do an energy audit for free.

I live in a spec house and for sure there were some energy leaks that we fixed.

Here's one easy way for the country to cut down on emissions and at the same time save a bundle of lives: Change the legal driving age to 18.

The people across the street from me have 2 kids of driving age. The mother teaches at the same school the kids go to. 3 cars go to and from this school from their house every day. And that is just ONE small example.

Just a question-does that actually cut emissions or only save lives? I'm kind of foggy on that one.

One for sure is that we should ENFORCE the exixting speed limits for trucks on the highways. That could probably help emissions as well as save lives. Those guys pass me like I'm standing still all the time and I'm a 60mph driver.

My point was that no one is going to help the environment by making excuses. You're right, everyone has their limits and everyone has things that they have to start getting used to. But, instead of saying you'll get rid of your SUV when Al Gore does, you could actually give a real reason to have your SUV, because that is not one.

Do you always only look at one variable in any situation? More Density generally equals More Efficiency. So, the more people in the US would bring down the per capita CO2 emissions or energy usage or whatever. There's just one other variable. There's approximately 1,000,057 others.

Population control as a globe makes way more sense than limiting immigration into the US. One doesn't step into our country and immediately start creating more CO2.
