that shouldn't stop you.

Your opinion, not mine. That's the reason I don't.

I heard something today that is hard to believe or maybe just hard to understand the reasoning.

An Amish man selling Amish made furniture told me that the Amish use electric power tools to make their furniture but that it is OK with their religion because they are "not on the grid." They use diesel powered generators to run them.

I didn't say anything. The man was truly sincere, but how weird is that?

Not very, in comparison to anything else humans do/think/believe.  :)

I don't get it. You want people to give tips on how to go green and then you just explain why you're not going to do it.

I don't pay anything to recycle. I take a bunch of stuff to a drop-off place about every 2 months. Is that so hard?

I'm going to buy a hybrid or fuel-cell or whatever is the best at the time I have money. And, I would NEVER drive an SUV unless I lived on a ranch or something.

SUV's are bad enough, but who are these tools who drive Hummers?

In Iraq, cool......but on I-435, retarded.

I'm not giving anyone any tips.

I'm glad you are so holy that you take your stuff every 2 months.

And I'm even more glad that you "are going to" buy a hybrid blahblahblahblah.

We all have limits to the things we will do for green. You have yours, I have mine.

What else do you do for green?

KC Star: Beefing up energy efficiency
If you live in an older house that has not been fully weatherized, about 20 percent of your heating and cooling bills can be attributed to air leakage.

These tests can be expensive, depending on the size of your house, but a thorough job of sealing can cut your home’s air leakage by about 33 percent.

“You should view energy leaks in your house the same as water leaks in your roof,” Housh said.

When you're driving a gas guzzling SUV it is

It also might interfere with high tea at the latest northland hot spot.

I'm not sure, but I think the power company will do an energy audit for free.

I live in a spec house and for sure there were some energy leaks that we fixed.

WTF? Nice try to throw a red herring into all of this.
Only red herring is the one that exists in your mind.  More people=more consumers=more pollution.  If you can disprove that equation, please do so now.

If the immigrants don't get into this country, does that mean they no longer exist and don't pollute?

We've already been thru this point, Max.  Are you not reading the thread?

Here's one easy way for the country to cut down on emissions and at the same time save a bundle of lives: Change the legal driving age to 18.

Good luck passing that one

The people across the street from me have 2 kids of driving age. The mother teaches at the same school the kids go to. 3 cars go to and from this school from their house every day. And that is just ONE small example.

Just a question-does that actually cut emissions or only save lives? I'm kind of foggy on that one.

One for sure is that we should ENFORCE the exixting speed limits for trucks on the highways. That could probably help emissions as well as save lives. Those guys pass me like I'm standing still all the time and I'm a 60mph driver.

My point was that no one is going to help the environment by making excuses. You're right, everyone has their limits and everyone has things that they have to start getting used to. But, instead of saying you'll get rid of your SUV when Al Gore does, you could actually give a real reason to have your SUV, because that is not one.

I already posted a list of stuff.

Do you always only look at one variable in any situation? More Density generally equals More Efficiency. So, the more people in the US would bring down the per capita CO2 emissions or energy usage or whatever. There's just one other variable. There's approximately 1,000,057 others.

Population control as a globe makes way more sense than limiting immigration into the US. One doesn't step into our country and immediately start creating more CO2.

Don't laugh - Hillary once advocated this, maybe a year ago.

Can you imagine her actively campaigning on that?
