Is the 1% for art tax for downtown still a thing?

With all of the projects downtown I would assume that we would have something like a centerpiece coming along with it but I haven't heard of anything. Is that tax still a thing?

The 1% program is for buildings owned by the City of Kansas City, not private developers.

And it is not a tax, it is a contribution to public art.

good question. the city will own the land, but is not building the structure (from what i understand).

I know it's not necessary, but at the very least I would like to see 1% the value of the land be a cost that must go towards beautification of the building. Better lighting, decoration on the exterior, etc.

Maybe have a similar program for tax incentives. If you get incentives you must use a better quality of external materials.

A good alternative for a historic building like P&L would be to make the historic aspects more open to the public. Like the P&L building would have a small section of lobby where the public could enter and view the artistic designs in it.
